Looks like AC Pay got bit by VISA

From the AC Pay lounge.. I guess there's no hiding from Visa. AC Pay was the most reliable of the holdouts...

From the AC Pay lounge:
----------------------------------

Dear Webmasters,

In the interests of retaining the continued good relationship with merchant banks and provide our clients with the best possible service, AC Pay will be implementing some significant changes over the coming weeks. These break down into two categories--Registration Fees and Site Content, respectively.

REGISTRATION FEES:

As of June 15, AC Pay will begin charging an annual registration fee to all clients. Clients outside of the United States and Canada will be subject to a $350 annual fee, while clients within the United States and Canada will be subject to a $750 fee. For clients doing business within the United States or Canada that have already registered with VISA through an IPSP, the $750 fee will be waived and they need only pay $350, with proper proof of registration. For clients with a certain transaction volume, AC Pay may, at it's discretion, waive some or all of the annual fees, on a per-case basis. Future clients will be required to pay fees to AC Pay before processing can begin. Existing clients will be sent a bill, as necessary.

SITE CONTENT:

We have already begun providing Webmasters with a number of simple steps to take to ensure that their sites comply with card association regulations. We will distribute these more widely in the coming weeks, As a reminder, AC Pay will not accept sites in any of the following categories:

- Rape: any materials involving rape, simulated rape, forced sex or bondage with penetration.
- Child Pornography: any materials involving persons under the age of 18, either ?actual? or suggested?.
- Hate Crimes / Hate Propaganda
- Pre-teen References: any references to ?Lolita? or ?Pre-Teen?.
- Bestiality: any materials involving sex with animals.
- Molestation
- Incest
- Inappropriate URL: any URL (domain, directory or file name) that implies any inappropriate content listed above.

If you have any questions, please email [email protected]. We expect a large number of questions, so our response times may be slower than average for a few days, but we will get back to you. To protect the privacy and security of our clients, we will not respond to posts on this or other boards.

Sincerely,

Cormac Foster

Too funny, I ran across this when I was checking on my contract too. They're still being decent about it, giving a discount if you're already registered with another processor. Hmm, how come the other guys aren't doing that?

Mr.Fiction 05-28-2003 03:03 PM

I wonder if calling women "sluts" or "bitches" or "whores" makes it "Hate Propaganda"?

I don't get that either. Bondage is a stupidly common fetish activity among all sorts of people; people like to tie each other up and fuck. Why does that get lumped in with rape?

Hmmm, what Canadian bank is registering high risk merchants?

I just realized that you don't register Canadian merchants at this time since there are no Canadian banks?

What is going on here?

Ummmm...no they're really not. They are charging $350 regardless of whether VISA are charging them or not. They're actually being VERY greedy.

Umm... yes, they really are. The other processors are charging $750, regardless of whether or not you have already paid the Visa fees to another processor. AC Pay is saying "ok, we're not going to charge you the Visa fees since you have already been charged once. BUT, we still need to charge you the $350 bank fees."

Get a US presence. Don't fiddle with that EU stuff.

There was a couple of processors at least that DIDN'T charge the $750 if you were already registered when I was looking recently. I'm not going to search to see which but they are out there. The $350 is purely because ACPAY want $350 from people. No other reason to charge it.

Tipsy, would like to hear who those other processors are. So far every one has said the $750. fee is per processor. Jettis is the only one I know of now that is refunding the fees, as CCBill stopped their refunds.

CC Bill, and I believe Jettis as well. The fees were still paid, they were deducted from payouts over time, as I understand it. CC Bill got socked as well for doing that, which is why they stopped.

Sorry but wrong. Look at CCBill again especially non-US. ACPay are charging $350 through greed and nothing else.

Must admit I may not have been clear enough and if so at fault. I was looking at it from a non-US point of view. However my point is still very valid. ACpay are charging everybody $350. They have no need to at the moment. Again, greed. For a good example of not charging $370, $750 or whatever for non-US go look at CCBill. The money isn't so much the point here as let's face it if you can't afford $350 you shouldn't be in business. However, that doesn't mean you'll want to give someone $350 just to line their pockets further.

It almost looks like AC Pay tried to attract large numbers of webmasters by delaying this announcement. At first, they were extolling the virtues of their fee-less system. Bait & switch? I hope not ...
