Can you write off your car?
Can you write off your car for your business? Or only the miles?
Thanks! Mandy |
Yes, if it's business related. Keep the recips and kind of jot down what you did and when you did it. This will give you something to reference to IF the IRS asks you anything.

I already keep track of my mileage....I didn't really last year and my accountant told me I really should this year.
I wish I could write off the car payments too lol! |

you can either write off the cost of milage, or the cost of upkeep and expenses. Keep good track of both, and decide which is better for you at the end of the year.
Using the expenses method, you have to put a percentage that you use the car. and you have to be prepared to back it up, thats why many people just use the milage method. |
Yeah I guess I'll just do the mileage. I guess I should plan some more trips lol

whole car, all gas plus all accessories and tuning :)

You can write off a portion of it but you can NOT write off the entire thing like someone mentioned in here. (Exceptions below) I happened to ask our accountant who is currently a few feet away from me. You can write off your entire car but hope you don't get audited. If you have two cars, you can write off one car for business but remember, AGAIN if you get audited they take into account what you do for a living.... i.e. Doctors driving here there and everywhere is explainable. If you work from home, it's best not to push the limit and get carried away with the % you write off.

i wrote off mine last year =)

If you have sex with me in the back of your car and film it then you could definitely write it off, call it a prop for a shoot :Graucho
