just smoked my last cigarette...

trying to make it stick this time. i think i'm trying to break too many old habits and make new ones, probably should go for one at a time. add that to the people politics i've been dealing with and a lot of work, and this could get pretty hairy.

wish me luck :thumbsup

Good luck man, I kicked the cigs a year and a half ago, although I smoked for 2 days while in Vegas in January.

You can do it, you will feel better, you will save money, you will smell better, you will no longer be a slave. Keep your eye on the prize, this next week will be rough, are you using anything or cold turkey?

iroc409 05-26-2003 09:05 PM

going cold turkey, should be interesting.

markell 05-26-2003 09:07 PM

i tried and i ended up looking like this all day >>:eyecrazy

Spunky 05-26-2003 09:08 PM

Hey I quit over a month ago using that Zyban drug...worked great, I really did quit...no urges or anything! I highly recommend it. I smoked for about 2 weeks while on the drug and then just didn't feel like having a smoke after that....pretty weird but I swear it works..

Sometimes when i'm out at the bars i'm very tempted to light one up...especially when my friends (cough Wizzo) blow smoke in my face..but aside from that, it really works...

Call your doctor, get Zyban. Save your lungs for the kind bud :stoned

iroc409 05-26-2003 09:20 PM

i don't think i have a doctor...

but, if this gets too rough to do without, i will go the patch or something. but i want to try it myself first. they say you break the body's addiction after 3 days, after that it's just mental. supposedly. so, if i make it 3 days, i should be good to go. i hope :)

Ludedude 05-26-2003 09:36 PM

Go for it. I quit last September. After the first week it's a piece of cake. I did use Zyban which was amazing.

Get yourself one of these things too:
http://www.mwilden.com/QuitTime/

If you need motivation it can help a lot. If you have any q's or whatever, give me a yell on ICQ 53618488

You can do this...don't let that shit control your life.

Ludedude 05-26-2003 09:57 PM

OK dude, hang tough. I'm off to bed in a bit :)

Here's the output from my counter (just to give you something to shoot at)
---
8m 14 hours 25 minutes smoke-free :-) 4,859 cigs not smoked, $1,226.90 saved, 2w 2d 20:55 life saved

iroc409 05-26-2003 09:57 PM

sweet.

Ludedude 05-26-2003 09:59 PM

Thanks :)

First few days are the toughest...but it's mostly mental. Keep telling yourself that you run your life, not some POS weed that someone else is making a killing on.

bobv50 05-26-2003 10:12 PM

I quit 2 months ago...Get the patch and never look back dude..:thumbsup

Plus I only used the patch for 10 days....I didn't see the point in Following the Directions (8 weeks)..

Cold turkey doesn't work dude..unless you go to the County Jail for a few weeks..:1orglaugh

Good luck man - I went cold turkey 9 days ago... it's nothin! :thumbsup

Contrary to what the guy above says, cold turkey works! with a little willpower....

Patches are for the weak!!!!

NoCarrier 05-26-2003 10:21 PM

3 days and no more nicotine inside your body. That's the goal.

Think about it, you are addicted to nicotine, not the cigarette itself. The cigarette is just a device getting that nicotine to your brain (and it's a very effective one also).

I quit cold turkey and never looked back.

http://www.whyquit.com is the place to go.

It's free, tons of articles and motivation.

The main goal for the guy is to quit smoking. It really doesn't matter what mehtod. Cold Turkey, Patches, ect. It's different for every one. The true test is when you go to a bar and get fucked up :drinkup . Then you hook up with a 20yr old slut and fuck her brains out. If you can do that and not :smokin

Then you have truely quit.:thumbsup

I quit for good 2 weeks ago.

Went for a medical which involved having an ultra scan, told me one of my main artery walls was hardening due to smoking.

That was scary enough.

smack 05-27-2003 12:41 AM

i attempted to quit, but made tha mistake of buying a can of snuff to hold me over. now i like both. damnit....

adamneve 05-27-2003 01:00 AM

Mistake #1: Making a big deal, or any deal, over your last cig.

For all the unsuccessful times I tried to quit, that 'last cig' was a big deal to me. Oooooooooh its my last cig, no more kissing death in the butt! Blah blah blah... never was my last cig.

When I was successful in quitting, my mentality was very different... I was totally comitted to quitting, in fact, I somewhat had a non-smokers disgust of cigarettes, and so when I quit, I didnt make any deal of it on the last cig. I didnt tell myself 'its my last cig', or what have you.

Anyway, point Im trying to make is - your mentality. Its really all in the head, which determines your success. You have to not only stop smoking, you have to program your brain to stop giving a shit about it. Thats why the first two weeks are the hardest because you are dealing with all the mental urges and trying to break out of the cycle.. You have to totally get cigs out of your mind.

GOOD LUCK
