My friends bank deposited 3 000 000 + in is account today by accident!

He called them later to tell them about the error... He even showed me is bank book with the numbers, I told him to transfer the funds in Switzerland or offshore or just leave the amount there until they find the error but he prefered to call them.

What would you have done?

Would the bank noticed there was an error?

I wonder whose legal responsability it would have been if he had kept it? 3 million is enough to leave the country, and never have to work again.

Claude 05-26-2003 04:51 PM

Thatīs a shitload of money and they would proably have noticed evenyually, but it must have been a temptation to take the money and run...

This happened to me with Royal Bank about 6 years ago. It was about $3200 USD into my US account. I called to ask them what this deposit was and apparently it was a foreign exchange from Yen's. I was yes, now I remember, thank you :)

Anyways, I left it in my bank and about a month later they caught on and withdrew it but I was allowed to keep the interest on it. Mind you it wasn't great but they will always find out eventually. Most of the time they're pretty nice about it but it is their legal right to take it back without any benefits so I just settled for the interest.

Mine deposited 8,000.00 us into my account. I let it sit for a year then just closed the account, never heard a word about it.

magnatique 05-26-2003 05:01 PM

I had a 2500$ deposit and withdrawal on the same day with them once as well ;)

3m CAD, about 2.2M USD, mmmmm
Tempting, but you might not be able to ever come back to Canada, now if it was France or some bullshit European country, then it might be tempting and who cares if you can't go back; but Canada or the US......

I've read about a few incidents like that here in Norway too. Most of the times it seems as banks find out sooner or later. And here at least it's you're responsibility to inform the bank about the error, and ofcourse using any of it is illegal.

If that happened to me today, I'd grab as much of tha cash as possible (I'm broke as fuck atm hehe) and make sure I was able to hide it. Transfer some to friends who wanted some cash too etc.

If the bank ever found out I'd be sent to jail, but in Norway I wouldn't get much of a sentence eitherway so it would be woth it.
If I managed to get get away with some of it that is. Ofcourse I would have to pay back every last cent (have property, future paychecs etc confiscated to pay back), but moving to another country with a few mill wouldn't be a sad thing. I don't plan to spend all my life living here anyways :winkwink:

The guy is lebanese from Beirut... I would of tranfer it in a bank account over in Beirut & catch the next plane out...

Fuck That, you only get these chances once or twice in your life, mind as well cash on them & hide...

Kevlar 05-26-2003 05:22 PM

I deposited a check for $7500 and withdrew $5000 cash from a TD Canada Trust account, and the only transaction that showed up on my statement was the deposit. I called and they took the $5000 back, plus the interest from it.

Or the "Cote D'Amalfi" ...

And the worst would be Monaco ....

I sure prefer to live in Stinkhole, Idaho or Saint-Perdu, Canada

Ok I got it, run down to the bank and get a secured loan for 3 million. Preferably something like a 10 - 30 year one.:Graucho
