How do you stop yourself checking your stats/email constantly?
:helpme

for stats, change your password to something hard, and forget it

Jogging shoes.

Hammer your fingers... it helps you a bit... remember to hammer them enought to make them unusable at all :)
|
I'm not one to talk since I haven't left the house in 2 weeks - but sometimes a venture into "real life" helps with obsessing with mail and stats..
|
just face it, most addictions cant be stopped :winkwink:

I have the same prob. It is always so nice to see how much you are making or who needs what. What you have to do is anything other than sitting infron of your computer...walk the dog, go for a rollerblade, golf...that one's tough 4 hours with out checking.
Well Nysus you have completed step one. Admitting you have a problem:) Few cold beers help take the mind off it too. :2 cents: Good luck man. I think the idea of making your pass somthing you can forget is a simple way too:) nice one |

stop sendning traffic, and get disgusted by the :0:0 ratio?
|

call him every 3 min |

Just get statsremote if you have that problem. It will check every 15 mins all your programs and you can get it to make cool sounds at sales, rebills, email sales, etc. I don't use it anymore, but it was cool when I did.

I take a quick look at my stats and email in the morning, while having my first cup of coffee. Some days I check stats before I go to bed too, but not often. Earlier I would check stats every 20 minutes the whole day. Now I just try to relax and leave it be, once a day is more than enough.
Email is checked a few times a day though, during breaks etc. |
i check my stats about ten times an hour..althoughi know they only update on the hour...lol
ah well...i check emails about once every half hour...but stats...i seem to be addicted to money or something |

Anybody know of any free stats checking scripts to install? I know its :2 cents: and all, but I hate spending monthly money on something like stats remote when there might be freeware out there I can just install.
????? |
setup a program that can show you stats on your desktop in real time. like baseball boxscores that change from game to game every few seconds. have it go through all your different sponsor stats.
|
play golf:thumbsup
|
I know how it feels, I check stat pages some 20-30 times a day :(
yes, Im a sad sad person |
Check my sig !
|
naked chicks, dancing in your office usually works I find.
|
Thanks to methadone, I only check mine about twice a day.
|
Stats remote is a serious help. I still obsess but now it takes about 2-3 minutes to fully check them and 10 seconds to see if a recent sale was made. Do not set it for 15 minutes. Do the full hour or better 2 hours and get some work done!
|
I use MSN messenger so it tells me when I have mail and don't have to check it all the time but haven't found a trick for the stats yet :)
|
Turn off your computer, is the only way. You can't work also, but anyway you are not working if you're a real stats addict as some are.
|
All good advice. I normally would take my dog on 2-3 hour to two hour walks each day though she's not allowed that much excercise and I really don't wander aimlessly too well.

current uptime: 2 weeks 5 days 7 hours and 52 minutes! :thumbsup |
You should have some sort of daily schedule, assign 'stat checking' time, or best just do it weekly and even better forget your stats, count the checks. That's the only number that really matters!
|
Download the latest version of Netscape, open all your sponsors in seperate tabs and then choose reload all tabs... it makes it a lot easier.

Click the Install link under "AXS Visitor Tracking System". You will be able to install the script to your server directly from their server, very handy! |
heh that is a problem. I Solved it years ago.
I have a BlackBerry that all the signups that occur send emails to. and I just have the blackberry beep or vibrate when a new sale comes in. That way I am free from the computer! Or you can email your phone, or what ever you have thats on you all the time that can accept emails. |
The only reason I go to the billing company website is to do customer service or delete a traded pw.
I "check my stats" by glancing at the email subfolder that contains my sales confirmations. I also have my home page set to my bandwidth utilization graph. Those two items are checked several times per day and they tell me if everything is cool. If not, time to work. |
sex.
lots of it. |
transfer all your accounts to me
I wukk be checking them and cashing your checks |
Yep... It's a addiction !
|
Checking stats, getting email (mostly spam anyways), ICQ messages etc. are all just distractions & you probably don't realize how quickly they add up.
I try working in blocks - 2 hours, 1 more gallery, 1 more AVS site & so on. Once I finish whatever the goal is, I reward myself by getting to read the boards for 15 minutes...checking stats...whatever. Sounds stupid but any little incentives you can give yourself to work longer really help. |
shut down your computer and go on vacation:glugglug
|
i don't check them more than 1 or 2 times per day anymore thanks to statsremote

With the new motor home my folks have now, I'm going to be forced to take a few days away from the site this summer. It's never been done in over 7 years..not one day without an update. Not sure how I'm going to pull it off yet. If it goes without being updated, I'll have tons of email from visitors asking what the problem is (been there before with a late update due to computer problems). No matter what I do, I'm going to come back to a bazillion emails to go through. |
Nysus...
Remove the screws from the cover of the computer. Set them aside, you'll need them later. Pick up the PC and chuck it out the nearest window. Put the screws in the draw where you keep all your spare screws, nails, etc. |
