cheapest hosting for only pictures paysite

so i know someone who runs a comic paysite and he only hosts picture files and he wants to reduce his hosting cost..

I think he's on a dedicated server now but do you even need to pay for dedicated hosting for just hosting pictures ?

Can't you just do that on a cheap shared hosting plan

A big factor is going to be: how many pictures and how big are they?

We've had video pay sites start out with our base line managed VPS and it was okay for a start. But as a video pay site, they quickly outgrew it.

A picture based site would most likely be fine on a VPS. The exact package will mostly depend on storage needs.

I would recommend determining that number, and then shop from there.

You can get cheap hosting, but the question is, do you want it? If it takes forever for your site to load then why have a site at all?

How much disk space does he need ?

My shitty OVH VPS is loading faster then a VPS hosted at a well known company here :) (and yes the OVH VPS got lower specs)

Does the site have a lot of traffic? What kind of storage requirements? Does he know how to do any server administration on his own?

Our newest VPS are the fastest out there, have storage up to 7TB and include 300 megabit at the lowest tier. I’m not sure if the poster above is referring to one of our older VPS plans, but our newest VPS use the fastest Ryzen CPUs and NVMe storage. You can learn more here..

If the site is mostly static, then put it on a well known host for Service and Stability both Brad and Sly have responded here.

Then route the domain via Cloudflare and use their caching service. Let Cloudflare cache images and html files, the site will be blazing fast with very low hosting costs.

From what you save on hosting costs, allow yourself to keep the site with a well known company and thereby have someone to ask if or when something were to happen.

You wouldn’t even need to use cloudflare to serve this with caching on one of these new VPS.

mojo has great vps, i run a picture site with just under a million visitors a month with no issues.

Fortunately you have lots of choices. Personally I recommend https://tmdhosting.com. I am not affiliated with them but I use them for all of my stuff, and the link above is not an affiliate link.

For 2 other cool options, you can setup a server yourself and be online in 5 minutes at Linode: https://linode.com. (Again, not an affiliate link). Super-fast servers start at only $5.00 per month. If you like I can help you get setup with them at no charge.

Another way to do it, which is the cheapest possible way, is to host it yourself off of any machine in your home. You will need some tech skills to do it, but it fun to setup and you will learn some valuable tech skills in the process. You can use any spare computer you may have laying around, or setup a virtual machine, or even use a Raspberry Pi computer (About $50 from Amazon). You'll learn alot and save money at the same time. I'm happy to show you how.

I have a HawkHost shared account with 40-60GB of photos at any given time, selling digital downloads. Works great for cheap price :thumbsup
