Is it a bad idea to hire a web developer who has no adult site experience?

I found a firm I like and his work and reputation/reviews are great. But does it really matter if he's never done an adult content site before, specifically a niche live cam site?

Klen 01-05-2024 01:05 AM

Yes it is, as there is plenty of developers who have experience with it.

What is so different about it? Is it specifically the industry or the actual development side of things? I feel like you can either build a cam site or you can't. What would be that different for him?

It goes faster when you have prior experience with topic.

If your tech stack includes React or Spring Boot, then I can help you

Yea he quoted me 10 weeks for completion and $16k, made in 4 payments as he progresses. I've never done this before. Is that a normal amount of time and price to get a cam sit up? I was honestly expecting it to be much more. I was ready to accept $30k+.

I don't know what those are. I am relying solely on the expertise and support of the developer I end up hiring, and will also be paying for monthly site maintenance and support. Obviously I plan to learn as much as I can about the IT side of things, but also I've recruited my ex husband to do this venture with me because he is a lot more knowledgable about this than I am and already has a successful online business selling supplements on various websites and platforms. I'm the one with the domain/idea, and my role will be creating the model contracts, the site language content and legal disclaimers, model recruitment and advertising.

Well, there was once discussion about cost of building live cam site, and someone posted how cost for it would be 20k$. Since i dont have experience with building live cam site, i am unable to give proper answer is this estimation correct or not, but generally in development there is always issues happening which causes period of completion to be longer then estimated.

This is why i as developer , i aim to make SAAS deals with clients - because even when project is completed , it will probably require a lot of updates and maintenance later, so better to do it that way.
With one time deals there is a risk how developer will disappear one day, without option to do any update due complexity of code.
For live cam site , i would charge 1k$ a month.

And one tip - before starting project , make sure you have good foundation to keep project running . as i witnessed many live cam projects where massive amounts of money were spent, yet they ended up closing up eventually as it did not worked out.

Adult and Mainstream are two different animals, a mainstream webmaster won't know how to create a highly-converting adult website.

Are you looking for just a site like this?
https://nichepornsites.com/how-to-ma...ive-cams-site/

Or an actual full site and mange billing?

It sounds like you want the 2nd option?

I've hired several that had yet to work on an adult related website and we've never had an issue with them.

I'd be really curious to see what are the end results that will be delivered for the mentioned $16k, I wouldn't really start a live cam site without at least like a $100k budget, most of which will be spent on server costs / lawyers.

I haven't followed the market but I'd look/ask around if you could solve these via white label solutions as those will give you the technology / billing with some customizations out of the box.

Live cam sites have lots of problems that are hidden from end users, e.g. DDOS, content moderation (spam, illegal content, DMCA, etc), random lawsuits, payouts to multiple countries and their tax rules, leaked content, KYC, GDPR, etc.

tl;dr make sure you really research it before jumping into it and put money aside for lawyers

Why do I need to worry about other countries' tax rules? Wouldn't that responsibility fall on the models?

Im not interested in doing any whitelabels I want my own niche cam site and I'm going to be building a brand really.

This developer is eager to build the site I think he probably wants to expand his portfolio, which btw is very nice. He's far fro m amateur. And I like that he's local and we can meet face to face.

Yeah that point might be easier if you use 3rd party payout systems or something like that, I worked recently on a site with an in-house payout system where e.g. models from the EU needed to have a tax number provided to get paid (it's a recent/upcoming compliance rule from what I was told by their finance people) so I just mentioned it as an example that if you do everything yourself you need to keep an eye on a lot of news like compliance/etc.
