unseen paysite costs...

what are some costs that newbies or people that havent started a paysite before might find out very quickly if they try to start one?

Darren 05-25-2003 02:40 PM

detoxed 05-25-2003 02:40 PM

gothweb 05-25-2003 02:42 PM

Er...

Content (or production & talent)
Hosting
Advertising or Affiliates
CC Processor %
Visa Extortion Fee
Taxes in April

BrettJ 05-25-2003 02:49 PM

in all seriousness. Time.

Read into that. It's not just a simple one word answer.

detoxed 05-25-2003 02:54 PM

some good answers.. what about things like incorporation fees, bank fees, legal fees, accounting fees, internet access (i'd say you pretty much gotta have high speed, or else you'd waste hours a day waiting for shit to load)

$5-10,000 and time, 24/7 then if you work hard enough , you will make some coin, how much depends on you skills as a webmaster and your content.

if you are just one person -

you need to be able to design banners, make galleries, update the site, shoot the content, handle scripting, and server adminning.

if you can't do those - you better partner with people that can - you'll NEVER make it - if you have to outsource all that stuff - doesn't provide enough flexibility - and the people - will never have the same ummmph that you have for the sites

How do you find a partner that will have that same "ummmph"?

I think i'm gonna write a book =)

Co-workers, friends of friends, contacts at other companies

- all of who - you should have a long working relationship with to be able to gauge whether or not they have that same dedication/drive...

Having partners is how I was able to make some good bank while still in high school (mainstream). I was fortunate and found a really good partner, we did pretty well. But this isn't always the case.

Just a heads up to anyone trying to find a partner. :winkwink:

BrettJ 05-25-2003 05:23 PM

yup. it ain't easy.

i'd also suggest having a laundry list of questions -

situational things - would you do this or that?

try to work out wether you guys share the same moral/ethical compass - and try to eek out what their future goals are - so that you are heading in the same direction

Having partners was how I was able to not get paid for the income my sites earned between November and February.

It goes both ways.
