I believe Clerks only cost about $50k to make, it was very low budget. So of course b&w was the choice as it is cheaper to produce.. :)

Kevin Smith grew up in the town that I live in. A few of my employees went to school with him. I live about 1/2 mile from the convenience store that he filmed the movie at. Still looks like a shit hole :)
