how much land do you own

Technically, at least in the US, land ownership rights extend to the center of the earth and infinitely out in space.

I'm not good at math, but it's like this.

Imagine telling pilots they can't fly over your property. It would be nice, but it's not happening.

I'm a former Air Traffic Controller.

CurrentlySober 09-05-2023 05:55 AM

Its not so much about the land itself though. More about what is built on said land... :2 cents:

Exactly - You could own acres and acres of open land in the midwest, but give me a corner plot, on a busty London street, that has a public toilet built on it... Thats REAL value... :2 cents:

I'd fucking go & live there!

Vendzilla 09-05-2023 09:55 AM

I live on a couple acres that's surrounded by pasture. The owners of the pasture have cattle on it. It's pretty cool. I don't have any neighbors that I can see

MaDalton 09-05-2023 10:06 AM

I'm considering one of these

If you have to pay property taxes then you own a house not the land underneath it (the local municipality does) so who owns what exactly?

I own the land underneath my home. I pay taxes to the state, that's it.

Nice!! In New Jersey (Bergen County) I pay over $14,000 a year in local property taxes. No kids, single, do not drive...don't get me started. LOL

Oh - and they reassesed my newly renovated house this summer (bad timing for me, good timing for the town) and my taxes just went up 12%. :disgust

Huggles 09-05-2023 05:06 PM

I own no property

It was the biggest mistake of my life

It is why my brother and I do not talk to our father, he will die alone in his own filth-filled diaper and he 100% deserves to suffer, I hope his death is excruciatingly painful and lonely

Cost of everything is less, a lot less.
The people here are genuinely nicer people.
Riots wouldn't go over very well here as so many people are carrying.
The steaks here are the best .
No traffic.
Everyone here is a OU fan.
Sitting on the back porch for hours , not another house in sight, enjoying the peace and quiet

One time the government found a coca plantation on my land and said it was my plantation, so I went to jail. The next time I found oil on my land and the government said it was their oil :(

adultinnovation 09-06-2023 11:00 AM

The house is on 1. We have 10 acres we plan to build on in a few years.

My business building is on 2.5 acres and I'm thinking of buying an adjoining 4 acres.

I pay half that in property taxes in Cumberland County and I still think it's entirely too much.

It should drop down this year though to 3500 with the farm.

To the OP - I am on 10 acres and it's not enough.

Close to retirement, already takes a couple hours to mow what I got

Well, I have a lot of livestock.

However, when my husband does need to mow the fields and yards - it takes the whole day between mowing and weed whacking.

It's much different than the rectangle 10 x 20 yard I grew up with, but I love it.

This happens in the USA as well. People find oil or other minerals and think they are rich, only to discover that they do not own the mineral rights to their land.

adultinnovation 09-07-2023 03:15 AM

We didn't get much in the way of mineral rights when my dad and his brothers bought the farmland. And with drilling in CA on the way out it's not an issue, plus the oil under it is too deep to be economical to drill. My sisters and I sold the 320 acres that was our share a couple years ago, we still have the 32 acres of development land my dad bought in the 70's but only a few percent of the mineral rights to it.

Funny thing is my home, which is been in my family since it was built in the 50's by my grandparents, everybody in my neighborhood gets a small oil royalty every year from the wells drilled just outside of town, so we do own the oil rights under our houses.

this not true...

own a piece of land on an area where the land is wanted, if nothing was on that land, it would still be worth more than the land with something built on it :2 cents:

and who cares about land, what about air space in Tokyo :helpme

Huggles 09-07-2023 11:34 AM

I wonder what it is like to stand on your own land and be able to build whatever you wanted on it. That must be an amazing feeling!

Odd coincidence that the number of visible homeless people in Kelowna has practically doubled in the last year or two... the rot is spreading a little bit every month...

You should collect some cow patties and send Currently Sober a GFY care package... :321GFY
