If you could meet anyone ...living or dead...who would it be?

Sorry but in response for that adult and classy response my momma no longer with us.
But thanks for that well thought out and professional response. Amazing you ACTUALLY took the time out of your busy day to post that

Thich Nhat Hanh

JesseQuinn 07-10-2023 10:30 AM

Malcolm X. over 3 decades I've gone through two copies of his AB by Haley till the pages started falling out. I got a 3rd one last year. I lend it out a lot but it's holding up well

(I love Jamaicans, they always return books)

one of the most brilliant minds of the 20th century

I'd never heard of that person before so wikipediaed (sic)

"Thích Nhất Hạnh was a Vietnamese Thiền Buddhist monk, peace activist, prolific author, poet and teacher, who founded the Plum Village Tradition, historically recognized as the main inspiration for engaged Buddhism."

that would be a crazy fascinating conversation

OneHungLo 07-10-2023 10:57 AM

That’s a tuff pick. It would definitely be someone significant like Jesus Christ, Christopher Columbus, Julius Caesar, George Washington etc.

While Thich Nhat Hanh (passed away last year, with no claims or illusions about reincarnation) shared a similarly large following as the Dalai Lama, his approach was extremely modest, and less "celebrity" high spirited in tone.

Unlike many Buddhist monks, he was an activist, standing up against the atrocities exacted upon his people by all sides in the Vietnam wars. He maintained a non-violent peaceful approach, but he also used direct language to point out injustices.

He's written many easy to read, extremely simple to understand, immediately implementable, books.

I've read several of his books including:
  • The Art of Living
  • The Art of Communicating
  • The Art of Power
  • Peace is Every Breath

I would highly recommend "The Art of Living" to everyone.

As I've had the privilege to experience being in the presence of people who have devoted their lives to peace, internal and external, through daily meditation and prayers, just to be around them, even in silence, is a remarkable transformative experience.

Doing mutually consensual adult erotic work does no preclude one from doing it from a non-exploitive respectful human place.

def sounds like a fascinating dude. his wikipedia page was pretty awesome and you actually explained his ethos better

gracias for the list! love me some book recs

I've added The Art of Living to my shipment list for my next round of book imports (mad expensive 'get across the border' import fees are the same whether it's one book or 20)

I love learning new stuff, seriously had never heard of him before. thanks again :thumbsup

I'd definitely choose a living person to meet, a dead one, whilst a possibility, would be pretty boring.

baddog 07-11-2023 08:32 PM

I would probably want to talk with someone that's alive
