anyone here ever able to figure out a rubik's cube?
I was never ever able to figure this piece of shit out... I remember in grade school they used to have competitions and I could never get that damn thing... I tried going to some sites with some tips and tricks on how to do it and it read like a manual on how to build a rocket... I even found a Virtual Rubik's Cube online and still can't do it.. anyone very do it besides taking it apart and putting it back together again right?
|
break it in to pieces, and build it up again... That's how i did it.
|
Yea, or... the second generation had stickers.
Easier than taking it all apart, but you could only do it so many times before the sticky stuff gave out. |
my brother was the king at these type of things give it 2 him and 2 hours later it was dun man i hated him for that i couldnt do it for shit

me too... heh :) |
When I was a kid I could figure it out... it's a lot of well-directed trial and error...
Another trick is to have it solved -- then turn-it/mix-it up in a certain order... then show somebody how fast you can solve it (repeat the pattern backwards) :p I had the pyramid one -- that was a lot more fun I think because you could finish it to get various cool patterns... |
I used do it in 4-5 minutes back in the old days. It's not that difficult actually. You just have to learn about a dozen specific "moves" and it becomes a piece of cake.
|
It's not that difficult - you just need to know 'the moves' - it's like any brain-teaser. Do you want me to point you to a site with the algorithms?
|
I got bored with it after a week.
|
I finished it once when i was a kid. then my fucking brother went and fucked it up, I was so mad i threw it away

http://www.olympus.net/personal/prmhem/default.htm Now I'm sure some of you will walk around with a fucking Rubik's cube trying to pick up chicks. |
I knew a guy who could do it in less than 30 seconds consistently.

Heh, the memories :thumbsup
When in 4th grade, I figured the best way to impress the girls was to be a good skateboarder. So I bought a wooden board (state-of-the-art back in the late 70s) and skated my ass off. I got pretty good, but the problem was that there weren't any girls at the good skateboarding places, and if there were, they wouldn't have cared anyhow. Then in 5th grade, Rubiks cube came out. Well, I saved up and bought one of the originals and learned it till I could solve the top 2 layers in under a minute (not hard to do). I was stumped on the bottom layer, so I bought a book and memorized the moves for that layer. I could solve the whole thing in under 2 minutes. I brought the cube to school, thinking that I would be a total "chick-magnet" with my 1337 skills. So at lunch, I whipped out my cube and to an amazed crowd, I solved it in about 2 minutes. Then some jerk-off borrowed the cube after I scrambled it, he popped off a side piece, disassembled and then correctly reassembled it. That was apparently more impressive to the 5th grade girls, so he got all the chicks! Heh, not really, but more folks were impressed with his trick than mine. By 6th grade, I decided that learning to juggle lunch milk cartons was my ticket to the lady's hearts. I got pretty good at juggling, but still the girls weren't impressed. I think 7th grade was magic tricks, and 8th grade was... well, it was playing D&D, but I had given up on impressing the girls with my 1337 skills at that point. It was probably around 10th grade that I realized the best "trick" to impress the ladies was to be myself and make them smile. It's a lot less work, too! |

This thread is so pathetic it makes me cry.

Yeah.. I can do em.. my ex husband was one of those fanatical supergenius types.. Mensa from grade two.. he and his father would have competitions and time each other, they could do them in under a minute. It was sick. I take at least 5 minutes to do em :(
|
I actually went to the store, bought a small gauge screwdriver and punched it through the sticker to unscrew and finish a second gen cube. I'm not proud, but I did it.
|
the list of morons on this board keeps growing...wtf kinda thread is this?
|
never - until used screwdriver. Fucking cube. Maybe I should try it now! I feel these days almost as a wiseguy... "I get the papers, get the papers..."
|
one of my friends can do it consistently in about 30 seconds as well. he's also the skinniest, pastiest programmers around.
but the crazy part? he can play basketball better than anyone i know. it is truly amazing, and not something you'd expect from a skinny, pasty-white programmer. it's unreal. |
just take off the stickers and re-paste them:thumbsup
