LOL...:thumbsup

OK.

EVERY...Did I say EVERY...cause I meant EVERY Maxtor drive I have EVER had has been a peice of shit.

I have never had a problem with a Western Digital or an IBM hard drive.

Currently running multiple Western Digital 100 and 200GB special edition drives and they are rock solid.

Thats odd.. I repair computers and most drive problems I have encountered were western digital drives. I run 2 maxtors 60gigs 24/7 and they have been problem free for 2 years (touch wood). I had a western digital and it frapped on me in a year and a half. But they seem to be getting better nowadays. shrugs

I rember back in 95ish...... Packard Bell had more repair problems then AST. But then again...Packard Bell sold how many times more PC's than AST?

Not to say that PB ever made a decent product either but my point is that there are more WD drives in PC's than Maxtor drives so you are bound to see more problems.

The last time I used a maxtor drive, my Pentium 166 was top of the line. Friends and family have also used them over the years and most of them had issues too.

TDF 05-23-2003 08:21 PM

well for some odd reason my computer isnt finding my new drive to be my slave drive, it keeps trying to make it my primary drive and my current drive the slave drive

Typical of a slave. They never know their place.

Dare I tell you to check the obvious things??? Like jumper settings?

gornyhuy 05-23-2003 08:43 PM

NOW HERE THIS:

never use Partition Magic to move your shit around and reallocate space. It has fucked me up the ass with a red hot poker and there is no recovering.

Partition a hard drive? Haven't done that since they came out with a bios to support larger drives.

Using Jumpers:
make your cd rom your master, setting the jumper to master
make your c: drive slave setting jumper to slave
make your secondary master drive master by setting jumper to master, secondary slave set it to slave

Cable Select
Set the jumper on both your CD rom and c: drive to Cable Select (CS)
Make sure your primary IDE cable has the black plug to your CDRom (master) and the grey plug goes to your harddrive (slave).
With jumpers set to cable select the black plug will always be detected as master, and the grey plug will always be slave
