USPS - Mailing from US to Canada

(inspired by juicy's post)

I sent a check to a designer on the 19th, i walked it right into the USPS center and asked them to get this there overnight.

Costed me $15 dollars for the service.

Here it is on the 23rd and its still not there yet!!!!!

Naturally the designer wont release my work, and i dont blame him ... but thats why i said OVERNIGHT IT!!!

I do have a tracking number, and i dunno wtf to do with it, lol

lil2rich4u2 05-23-2003 02:48 PM

has anyone else overnighted anything to canada and had it actually overnighted?

quiet 05-23-2003 02:48 PM

go to the ups site and track it. it may have got held up at customs. that happens alot more frequently now.

Juicy D. Links 05-23-2003 02:50 PM

dumb fuck lol overnight shit with fed ex and ups only neve the USPS fucker take my word for it

Probono 05-23-2003 02:50 PM

We do a lot of Priority Mial to Canada, it can take 2 weeks instead of 3-4 days. The border is a black hole

yup...if you didn't include a contact phone number for him it is probably sitting in the UPS office.

detoxed 05-23-2003 02:52 PM

I mailed 2-3 day gaurantee once and it took 5 days, was a laptop

Juicy D. Links 05-23-2003 02:54 PM

UPS standard or expedited to canadad requires 3 copies of an invoice for the customs shitheads for packages. I bet you you shit is sitting in customs right now.

When i shipped the contest books to the people in canada UPS requires so much red tape customs crap without it nobody would have gotten there books on time

CoolE 05-23-2003 02:55 PM

Last I heard, which was about a year ago, the USPS Overnight and the Canadian equivalent, Canada Priority Post, were not integrated, so you could not send mail overnight from one country to the other using those two services (well actually you can send it - but it doesn't arrive overnight). They should have told you that at the post office (assuming that is still the way it is).

FedEx is always the way to go for overnight between the USA and Canada.

the Shemp 05-23-2003 02:58 PM

Yup. FEDEX, next day service.

Kris 05-23-2003 03:00 PM

no shit, FedEx that stuff. it's easy. USPS will say next day, but they will never guarantee anything. and the fact that they don't have any kind of tracking sucks dick.

quiet 05-23-2003 03:00 PM

yup, fedex rocks.

ravo 05-23-2003 03:03 PM

Fedex is the *only* way to go; avoid USPS and especially UPS (the charge a huge "customs brokerage fee" to bring stuff across the border.)

USPS seems to be a bit of a joke. We wanted to ship a small package (Bday gift for my wife's dad) from NYC to Ottawa; it's about a 6-7 hour drive. USPS said it would take them *10 WEEKS* via their cheapest service. WTF do they do with the package? Store for 9 weeks then send it out?

bogo 05-23-2003 03:19 PM

Ars has been UPSing my overnight check, and it was late once out of the whole year.i have no complaints

lil2rich4u2 05-23-2003 03:21 PM

here is the tracking number for USPS:

EU81 7617 289U S

I did give them a phone number, and they said it would be there the next day ... this is fucking bullshit, i want my damn designs!!!

quiet, is this normal from your experience?

Have you ever used USPS for an overnight service accrosss borders? I wonder if maybe i fucked it up somehow.

I went to the window and said "i need this there overnight" so she said "oh you have to fill this form out, and put it in an EXPRESS envelope" and i did it.

She processed it and i payed $15

PostWhore 05-23-2003 03:32 PM

FedEx's overnight from US to Canada takes less than 48 hours

If you ship to Canada:
If you are ok with a person send it via FedEX
If you don't like a person send it via USPS
If you HATE a person send it via UPS

the Shemp 05-23-2003 03:33 PM

The scanning systems (bar code) are not compatible between USPS and Canada Post. Thats why its good to use a worldwide courier with one database, ie FEDEX.

freeadultcontent 05-23-2003 03:37 PM

lil2rich, you did fill out PS Form 2976 Customs CN 22 and affix the green sticker part to the outside of the package right?
Listed on it a detailed description of contents and value in US dollars?

the Shemp 05-23-2003 03:40 PM

he sent a check, in an envelope.
should cost 15.50 to Canada.

I never send letters, is it different for that?
Less crap, no customs forms, etc. ?

the Shemp 05-23-2003 03:47 PM

The to and from waybills have a spot on them to describe the contents.

For a check, you could use - "documents, value $1.00 USD" that should be sufficent.

yes it was a check ... within a plain envelope, and within an express envelope.

Yes i filled out the green sticker declaring the value.

If this is such a known issue, why the fuck dont they tell me that instead of charging me an overnight fee?!??!

In November 2002 I sent a package to my girlfriend's parents in Japan via surface mail. Cost me £37 (about $55). Six months later... May 2003... the stupid post man knocks on the door and wakes me up. The heavily battered, opened-by-customs package is returned with "not claimed" scribbled on it. Bullshit! They didn't even receive a notification that a package was waiting for them. Now I have this sitting in my office:

Postal service sucks dick. :321GFY

ldinternet 05-23-2003 07:58 PM

I have the returned package and the original postage receipt. I'm in two minds whether to go down there and kick up a fuss until they give me a damn refund. There must be some compensation for this kind of thing.

the Shemp 05-24-2003 02:51 AM
