Trinity uses real unix exploit (pics)

For my NERD homeys:
from http://www.insecure.org/

<P>We have all seen many movies like Hackers which pass off
ridiculous 3D animated eye-candy scenes as hacking. So I was
shocked to find that Trinity does it properly in The Matrix Reloaded.
She whips out Nmap version 2.54BETA25, uses
it to find a vulnerable SSH server, and then proceeds to exploit it
using the SSH1 CRC32 exploit from 2001.
Shame on them for being vulnerable !

Trinity gives me a nerd woody.:glugglug

That's some good movie detail :thumbsup

I was sad there weren't any giant skull and crossbones 3D animations that she had to crash through in order to hack the system....

the 80s movies like Weird Science really knew how hacking works.

Wasn't it swordfish where the IP addresses had numbers higher than 255? :Graucho

TheFLY 05-23-2003 09:26 AM

That's cool as shit... but maybe they should have coded nmap 16.5 just for the movie... because they're in the future... right? :1orglaugh

[Dan] 05-23-2003 10:34 AM

wtf it's just a guy that made a screenshot of his own screen; the bottom image doesn't fit at all with the text on the screen in the upper pic

Furthermore how could he get a clear picture like that from a screener or from taking a pic while watching the movie in a theater?

gornyhuy 05-23-2003 11:34 AM

Dumbass.

PowerCum 05-23-2003 11:54 AM

Also... if you take a look you will see that she is hacking some internal network IP. If I don't mistake if the matrix box was on the same internal network (probably in the same room or building) it would be easy to go to the box and hammer it for some time.

Also did not mention that trinity and neo are lamers. The 31337 h4x0r is morpheus. The matrix agent is 31338 because he is more than elite :)

See, that's where they keep the secret computers, at addresses like 1492.1231.2141.42 That way nobody with a TCP IP stack can access them.

She was trying to break into that computer in order to shut down the city power grid, not physically break a computer.

I'm sorry I have to lump you in with my previous assessment: dumbass.

nuclei 05-23-2003 11:59 AM

thats actually an obsolete nmap exploit

but at least they are "trying" to not be so typical and using screensavers for the hacking routines.

It was inaccurate, but just imagine the number of script kiddies who'd be trying to hit those those ips if they'd used valid ones. Kinda like I pity anyone with the phone number 867-5309.

She could be hacking it across a vpn.
