Better way of handling trial subscriptions
 

Take a look at the way we're handling "trial" subscriptions on Lightspeed18

Instead of giving the trial member access to the whole site, we're giving him his choice of a portion of it -- and only when he rebills does he get it all.

Damn I wish I'd done this a long time ago!

Anyone else have experiences trying something like this?

yup others have done something like this, but not exactly.

members get bonus sites for staying on past trial, past a month, etc.

Done that before. Works ok but no big diff overall.

I think ARS has been doing this for a while now, they offer a free trial but not to the whole site.

thats the way trials should be. what you should do is show them what they would get if they rebill and give them the option to upgrade to a monthly membership minus the trial price. try to tease them even more with extra movies, etc to try and get them to rebill while they're horny with one hand on their dick.

then look at how long the avg member stays and drop the price per month for any time beyond the avg for your sites. personally i think prices should drop after the 1st month because they're not gonna be downloading as much and getting less bang for their buck.

its good you guys figured it out, maybe other sites will change the way they do trials as well. i would make sure it is also clearly stated in your terms that a trial doesn't include all the content in the members area.
