also read a news story about Cheetah the chimp from the Tarzan movies. that fucker is still alive! he's like 75 years old, average chimp lives 45 years. He lives with a bunch of other showbiz monkeys in Palm Springs, watches TV, goes out for rides in the car.

When you find out what percentage we share with the Octopus, the paramecium, or the Eagle, the fact that we share 99.4% with the chimp seems a lot less exciting. A huge part of DNA is non-data-carrying, and a big part of what is left is general to all living things.
