Sorry to hear that but I hope that it was not a big amount.

To do a transaction like this you need to do it on a trading site itself. Sure, paxum is not available as a payment option on most (if not all) of the sites, but you should suggest that both of you do it on his trading platform using a different payment option on the trade, just to take advantage of the escrow function to secure your funds for you. Can't just send to someone straight trusting he'll come through.
