two IBM T860 18.1 inch TFT displays

CRTs are better than LCDs

so then you gotta decide what your priorities are... desk space, or image clarity.

I actually prefer my LCD rather than a CRT. My new vpr Matrix LCD (actually a rebranded Samsung!) is much more brighter and contrasts better than my 19" NEC/MultiSync flat-screen CRT.

If you stare at the monitor all day long, I'd recommend going for an LCD. If you have the money, get a the newer Samsungs. You can browse over at fatwallet.com for special deals on LCDs.

I just got a couple pairs of new titanium/graphite anti-glare coated glasses... (because I wear glasses) combined with the CRT, clarity is unreal.

yep - If its for photoshop; I would use CRT (IBM or Sony Trinitron
and for movie editting TFT, since you always look at the output on a real monitor

Although I don't own one personally, I've seen quite a few designers rave about the Lacie products.

well, either way, i'd probably have to go with samsung. for the price, you really can't beat their stuff.

when they came out with their new CRTs, they actually bumped sony AND veiewsonic in all the reviews for image quality and clarity. for a much cheaper price.

their lcd's are top-notch, and also very cheap.

i can personally HIGHLY recommend the samsung 955df 19" flat-screen crt. i bought one as soon as i read all the rage about them, and i can still say it's the best monitor i've seen. i have plans to upgrade this bad boy to their 21" df series soon. it's really well worth it. if you need 2 screens, get 1 lcd for most of your junk, and get a samsung DF series for your main screen. believe me, you'll love it. best crt i've ever seen. also has the smallest grille apature of the others for it's size. very sharp (just keep your glasses and monitor clean!)

viewsonic is pretty good, but for the price i can't justify it. and for most viewsonic's i've used, mine is clearer.

trinitrons are nice, but not really been all that impressed with them.

:2 cents:

edit: about $450 for the 21" DF samsung, around $250-300 for the 955DF, white or black. unfortunately, i paid $450 for my 19" when it came out...

I HATE Viewsonic - In my last company we sold a LOT of the PF790 model, and we never had anything but trouble - It takes FOREVER to get display 100% straight, and the RMA procedure at Viewsonic suck. Im reffering to a period 1-2 years back, so I cant really say anything about the new ones

- just my :2 cents:
