would irc logs, emails, etc count as 'reasonable effort' to find out a person's age - particularly if consent was explicit.

If you piss the girl off, all she has to do is accuse you of statuatory rape. You're defenseless if you can't prove she consented. And you'd have a hard time proving she consented without like a signed contract or video testimonial.
