Why do you SELL traffic?

Why do peoples sell traffic instead of leading it to their sponsors? I just don't get it. If it was real quality traffic, why not send it to your sponsor?

Guaranteed money I assume.

You answered your own question.

Because not all traffic is created equal.

Not all traffic to your site is necessarily interested in your niche.

If you can't make money from someone you can sell the potential to someone else.

If its going to convert why not sort/filter it yourself? It isn't exactly brain surgery or even time consuming.

It's all about the dollars. If you can make only $35 from x amount of traffic when sending to sponsors, but you can make $40+ from selling it, why not sell it.

If thats true, why will people buy the traffic, when the quality sux?

Because we all have our specialties. Some people are better at getting traffic and some people are better at converting it.

I use search pages like this as the last resort. You can yank a minimum of .02 cents from most everyone that way, no matter what the quality is.

The better question is why do they sell it for substantially lower then what they would get payed for by sending a sponsor signups.

We were in galleries/sales for about 5 years, now, we just have traffic scripts and use our old domains to generate 404 traffic.

But, your question is why..

The reasons we do it...

When we were in sales, we were burning 600 - 800 gig or more. We were tied down a lot more than we are now, building, submitting, running software... maintaining the servers... checking stats... following up on when the checks were coming and where they were coming from... when were they due?

Now, we just have one business and one income stream. We can actually spend a lot more time somewhere other than in front of the monitor.. even just leave for days taking only the laptop to check in twice a day.

Business is building, but the more it builds, we will still only have only one job, customer support.

I no longer have to remember who owes me money (and there was some I never ever got) because I now get paid up front for my work.

I still do some business with sponsor programs, but it's those that buy the traffic up front like any other valued customer. I'd like to keep it that way.

Besides, the current atmosphere in Washington worries me a bit, just like it would any other hardworking webmaster. I feel better knowing I make my money in this great industry with not one adult image on the web.

Just my humble opinion.

Ditto :)

You work the traffic through your sites, giving the surfer the opportunity to buy. If he doesnt buy, you trade him off or sell him off.
