Have the banana companies been engineering stronger necks on the peels? I haven't been able to open a banana the "normal" way for months now because the necks/stems are so strong that in order to for them to crack open I end up brutalizing the top half of the naner!

Hmm, I'd say that regardless of whether or not the bananas have a harder peel you are in fact crazy.

You are absolutely right. You have to be. I've been having the same issues. I can't figure it out. It used to be, (even when I was 8 so I know this isn't a strength issue) I could just rip those peels right off there. Now I cant even crack a motha fucka without smooshing the banana all to hell. What gives! I quit eating bananas because of it. But then yesterday a co-worker gave me one, and I had to re-live the experience again! Tragic.

Same here. I suspect they are using genetically manipulated seeds for the banana trees to produce stronger and greater crops.

Like given the bananas the equivalent of steroids.
