My Computer Power Supply Just Blew up - Sparks shooting out the back of my computer!

My cat was sitting on top of the computer too. All of the sudden, BANG BANG POP and I saw sparks shooting out of the back of the box. SCARY!

This is dangerous. That could cause a Fire..

Has this ever happened to you??

BRISK 05-20-2003 05:47 AM

God is punishing you for being a smut peddler.

Repent you sins and beg for forgiveness.

Juicy D. Links 05-20-2003 05:47 AM

you shouldnt be shooting loads into it.

Stand in water and turn the power back on, you also may want to hold onto a metal chair as well when doing this.

Cindyff 05-20-2003 06:30 AM

Your cat is probably sleeping right above the power supply because it is warm, and in return the cat creates extra heat which could have caused it to overload (finally).

The cat could be blocking venting on it or releasing liquids that are short circuiting it when it licks itself or clawing the cord perhaps.

Or you could have a bad unit with a short. Its amazing to me how more fires don't happen with all the computers and increased wiring in peoples homes.

Same thing happened to my computer last week. The design of the mother board was real crappy; The fan on the CPU pushed the head.... Right into the power supply. Last week the CPU more or less melted, and blew the fan right off of it.

I had a power supply in my server catch on fire a last year. Just enough dust built up inside on the right connections and POOF!
Fortunately, they're so cheap, I just swap it every few months now with a new one to be extra safe. Fuck cleaning it.

NoCarrier 05-20-2003 08:37 AM

Just make sure that the cat was not using your computer case as the new litter.

iroc409 05-20-2003 08:51 AM

yeah, most likely it was your fault, for 1 of two reasons:

a) you bought cheap crap. don't do that, the expensive stuff lasts longer and is less likely to explode. spend an extra $10 or $20.

b) you don't take care of you crap, or you did something else to provoke it.

do the opposite of these, and you will have a very happy relationship with your computer :)

SABAI 05-20-2003 09:23 AM

it happened to me once,
the power supply shooted 12 volts directly to the components ,
my hard drives burned, scanner and printer dead, palm craddle too, motherboard and cpu melted , lost 60 gigs of hard work as i didn t backup in time.

strangely the 512 megs memory still worked on the new comp.

my advice if your power supply is of the brand " deer computer" change it ASAP as my dealer told me it was not the first time he saw something like that with those power boxes.

sometimes static electricity will blow your shit up too. Im sure that cat rolled around the carpet and sat on top of your metal case and when you turned it on bam!

SoBeGirl Video 05-21-2003 05:42 AM

I appreciate all the comments as to why my computer power supply blew up but, I still think it is spirits. The ghosts of those girls who did video shoots with SoBeGirl and then wanted me to remove the content. These few girls may be very angry and put some spells on me.

PR_Phil 05-21-2003 05:49 AM

So what do you suggest? He gets a dog to sit on his computer?

Keep a computer well ventilated and sitting an animal on it looks cute, but I did not see it in the hand book.

Hope you did not lose too much data, keep everything backed up.

TheMob 05-21-2003 06:22 AM

get a mac :)

SoBeGirl Video 05-21-2003 06:09 PM

Squirt gun. Cats hate water. Cat comes in computer room: Apply liquid to cat via squirting apparatus. Problem solved.

nobull 05-21-2003 06:23 PM

Stop lighting your joints off it and you will be fine...

So now the computer is fixed and It was indeed a bad power supply. Not to thy self, don't buy power supplies from Ebay...
