Gawddamn, and you're proud of that flash work?

Fuck.

Amputate Your Head 05-19-2003 02:00 AM

I'm extensively covered, (sleeves, back, leg, chest, neck, etc.) and more work on the way. I don't get individual 'tattoos' at this point.... I have new sections done. Blended and extended with the existing work.

makes about as much sense as saying, "If you can't paint a Rembrandt, you should own one."

Nonsense. Leave the work to the man that does the work for a living. He knows what he's doing. This is especially true in areas of art like tattooing... it's rarely 'just a job' to them.... it's their passion.

bullshit. you dont get a tattoo just to get a tattoo.....if it has no meaning to you, ie you didnt design it because you had no fucking clue what you wanted, then it''s just like your body is someones canvas to do as they please.
i fail to understand someone seeing something and saying, wow...that's so cool i want it on my body!
what a waste of your flesh.

it's really not that black and white frog.... it doesn't need to be designed by my own hand for it to have meaning to me. Every tattooist I've been to, I have carefully explained what my ideas are, and they have created them.

I've explained things to them in many different ways... sometimes bringing in various things as references. I once brought in a live scorpion as a model.

So please don't presume that just because I didn't draw the thing that it has no meaning. I've participated in every single one of them to at least some degree. Some of them I've actually partially inked myself.

I agree.

Mine has meaning to me - and I explained exactly what I wanted - and left the rest up to the professional.

then i would be very interested in seeing your ink.

for all of my tats i have always started with an idea and worked from there. and always by the time i went to talk to the different tattooists in the area i had drawings and designs to show them so that i could give them a very good idea of what i wanted.

there are some very good tattooists around my area...but i dont think i could ever trust someone no matter how skilled they are in bringing my tattoo to life with just a few thoughts on what i want.

i guess what bothers me here is the idea of someone seeing a picture and thinking it would be cool to have it on their body. it reminds me of someone picking out a tat from one of the pictures in a tattooists portfolio.

Machete_ 05-19-2003 03:07 AM

If i show you my tattos, will you then copy them like you do with content?

Loch 05-19-2003 03:12 AM

I do believe i have one....somewhere hmmmm, cant always find the fucker :1orglaugh

There you've hit the nail on the head. There are a lot of good tattooists around but that doesn't mean I'd allow them to touch me with ink. They need to be beyond good and you need a relationship with them that allows this trust. Amp summed it up as far as designs go. As far as tattooists go though it's just a matter of doing your homework and spending time chatting/getting to know the guy first.

ServerGenius 05-19-2003 04:37 AM

I only have Maori tats designed by recognised Maori artists which
designed my tats based on my geneology. So far I have Both
upper arms and 1 sleeve next sleeve and back are coming up
shortly.

The inking was also done by selected Maori artists that traveled
Europe. After I get a design I discuss with the artist who is going
to do the inking. I wait until they visit/tour Europe and go visit
them.

I have work from Tu Duleyz (left upper arm, and working on left sleeve)
http://www.tamoko.org.nz/artists/tumoko/

Inia III Taylor (Right arm and sleeve)
Inia also will design my back

PersianKitty 05-19-2003 07:04 AM

3 here..all have a significance and I knew what I wanted when I walked in the door, but was open to artistic expression by the tattooist.

C_U_Next_Tuesday 05-19-2003 07:31 AM

I have two...the first one was done by "ROLLO" (the guy that does edgar/johnny Winters tatoo's ..this guy lived in Austin when i was there)..the design i made myself. The other was done recently ..i got Betty Page on my hip...i had it done on live webcam..haha. My whole family is tatooed out!

My father wants us to have the scene on his back cut off and preserved when he dies...uh dad, where are we going to hang it..the living room..eek!

MattO 05-19-2003 07:32 AM

Don't really like tattoos and think I'm probably too scared to get one if i did! Especially don't like tats on chicks... not good.

opflix 05-19-2003 08:52 AM

nice tattoo miss bunny... i think tats should mean something important. you're putting it permanently on your body & that's deep IMO. my 1st is 1 i designed. my 2nd (& probably last) is my son's name in japanese.

you're basically scarring your flesh on purpose so i couldnt see doing that just cuz its pretty or "hot".

Marissa 05-19-2003 09:03 AM

I have 2 tats.......a rose with a tiger's face in the middle and its surrounded by tribal on my pelvis and a chinese dragon on my lower back! One thing I learned from getting tats is that NEVER get a name unless its your child's name but then again if all else fails have it covered up.:thumbsup

beavis 05-19-2003 09:09 AM

No tatoo's and if I don't have them by now I will probably never
have them.

Oh, well.

bryany 05-19-2003 02:25 PM

http://www.sextram.com/newtattoo.jpg

Im getting mine finished as we speak hehe. It's my family crest with tribal. It actually is supposed to have a red lion on top of the helmet but it had waaaay too much detail that would have been hard to do .:thumbsup

Took 5 1/2 hours to fill the tribal, Im getting the shield done this week.

beemk 05-19-2003 03:03 PM

how can you say a tattoo is "too hard". im not into tattoo's, but if i got one i would get EXACTLY what i wanted no matter how hard it was. a tattoo is too important to do anything less than 110% effort. the main reason i havent gotten a tattoo is because i havent thought of anything i wanted enough that i will want for the rest of my life. if a tattoo artist told me something was "too hard" i would find a better artist. i like your tattoo though.

bryany 05-19-2003 03:23 PM

not too hard for the tattoo artist to do, I mean the lion would only be 3/4" tall and with all the detail in the lion, after time when skin grows the fine detail could mesh together and look odd.

This is being done by a buddy of mine who has been doing it for 14 years.

Thanks for the compliment though, I picked my family crest because it is something that is important, its like when I die, my name goes with me, I am having the letters of my last name drawn up now, thats the last step. I will post pics when its done :thumbsup

scorpy 05-19-2003 04:11 PM

I have a small tatoo on my right hand... the Scorpio sign... But I'm ready for a new one... a bigger one which will be a Scorpion... Don't want the regular scorpion so the reason i have to wait a little bit. I used to say "I'll never get a tatoo"... yeah right :)

Amp, I hope we don't ever go to the same tattoo shops, because I would have lost my frickin' mind. I hate those things...they look beautiful, aesthetically, but they scare the crap out of me. The first time I saw one in my house in Texas, I went berserker on it's ass with a broom.

singer744 05-19-2003 04:51 PM

I have 5 tattoos I have 2 on my legs and 1 on my are and 1 on my neck and lower back

dchottie 05-19-2003 05:05 PM

I have two, one on each ankle. The first was my experiment with the whole process and I knew what I wanted but let the artist do what he wanted with it. It's a 4 leaf clover as i'm Irish and a bit superstitious. I wanted it for luck and I wanted it small enough if it hurt too bad it could be finished really quick. My second was custom designed by my husband for our wedding. We got matching tattoos. It is celtic knotwork in a triangle shape with a heart intertwined into the center of it. My next one this fall is going to be a large dragonfly on my lower back with it's wings extending across my hips and it's tail descending down into my ass crack. The dragonfly will have celtic knotwork detail in the wings instead of the usual veins that a dragonfly has. My husband has 3 now. He had several removed that were on his back and were very gangland looking. He still has what I call his nude death angel tattoos. One on each shoulder in different styles though. Both are very angular and chisled looking and I believe they're supposed to be dark guardian angel warriors or something. One is a sun worshipper with wings holding a sun like object and the other is holding a sword. He did both of these himself. For both of my tattoos and the one that we got together we used a lady by the name of Aloha Noni Lani. She's supposed to be pretty well known in the tattoo world. I'm not sure though. She started and still has offices in Hawaii. You ever heard of her Amp?
