speeding tickets!
A friend and I were talking about how to avoid speeding tickets and I have a theory that you are much less likely to get nailed if you aren't in the fast lane...
Since I know there's alot of people here that have gotten tickets, I was wondering what lane you were in when you got your last ticket... |
Slow lane-- Going down a hill.
|
Middle lane, today, 79 in a 60
|
The only one I ever got I was on Pacific in Rocklin
:feels-hot |
I get them so frequently that it is difficult to remember which one was the last one. I do know that one of the last ones I was in the right lane, and one of the last ones I was in the left lane.

$500 ticket for speeding 75-100 I-95 connecticut
license suspended in that state to |
i was between the middle and fast lane doing 100 mph while getting my balls gobbled.
|
Hmmm, I've never noticed what lane it was that made any difference, since when I get tickets its usually for something ridiculous anyway, like 96 in a 55... they don't care about the lane :(
|
It's considered very dangerous to speed in the "slower" lanes and the drivers ed manual also specifies so. Some cops might go harder on you if you speed in the slow lanes because of that, that's just a guess though.
The only time I got a speeding ticket I was in the middle lane... Not really going that fast but it's going to cost me about $3000 (I love insurance companies). If I had known that I would definitely have taken it to court. |
never got a speeding ticket. cops don't usually bother trying to catch me :glugglug
|
after having a nearly perfect driving record i got 2 tickets in 2 weeks totalling 250 bucks, one for going 134kms in a 100 on the 401, and other for running a stop sign. talk about a piss off. but i was in the fast lane, kinda hard to speed in the slow lane with all the slow cars and all...
|
Bus Lane - Double Fine plus 6 points......I think the total I paid was £100 ($155)
|
Left lane. I was on the 59 in Texas somewhere inbetween Houston and Tyler. The officer made a u-turn from the opposite side of the freeway. That is when I learned they can monitor speed while driving the other direction.:(
|
The ticket before this one I was going 80 in the HOV lane.. almost a $300 ticket.. I'm contesting it, court date is set for June... 19 years old and 2 tickets in 3 months = I'm fucked on insurance!
|
I was in both lanes last time I got caught.. I guess this didn't help!
|
My only speeding ticket was actually on a road with 1 lane in each direction. Was a fucking speed trap to boot.
You exit the freeway, the new road also has a 55mph speed limit. So I cruise along doing 55-60, you have a slight incline for a hill, once you cross the peek of the fucking hill, there is a sign that says 35mph. You barely have time to see it. Well needless to say about 75 feet past that sign a cop sitting in a parking lot flashed me, pulled my ass over and wrote me up for doing 10 over the limit. Fucking 10 mph over, GRRRRRRR! Do you know what it is like to go to traffic school, having them ask you in front of everybody how fast you were going over the limit and hear answers like 30 and 40 over, etc. Gets to me and I am like well ummmm (thinking of lieing, then dont) 10 over. |

I've never gotten a speeding ticket, so unfortunately I can't vote on this one :(
|
I did 85-65 on AC express.
|
i speed in the slow lane..
that way when i see a cop i can hit the brakes then the guy in the middle lane gets the ticket :) |
Years ago, I was crusing down I-45 here in Texas and got a speeding ticket in the fast lane. They got me for doing 110mph in a 55mph zone.
The other time was on the loop 610 here in Houston. This time they got me for doing 120mph in 55mph zone. It was the center lane that time. Oz |
middle lanes? what the fuck are those?? HOVs??
yeah, i've gotten over $1000 in tickets. changed my evil ways though, haven't even been pulled over in over a year. guess i'm getting better at it. what lane does it matter anyways? around here everyone's a fast lane bundle of sticks so you always have to pass them on the fucking right. |

It was in a fast lane doing a 100mph but only got nailed for 85, which was bad enough. I was in Germany last week on the autobahn, its nice not to have to worry about speeding tickets. We had the VW turbo diesel up to 220k per hour 136mph probably could have done better, if not for a slight vibration in one of the front tires .:glugglug
|
was in the only lane
78 in a 35 |
I got two speeding tickets in an hour and a half driving through the texas desert on i-10 :helpme
|
I just called my cop buddy to ask him this question. He pays no attention to what lane someone is in unless there is a lot of lane CHANGING. That catches his attention more than a car in any one lane hauling ass.
|
I have collected over $15K in speeding/parking tickets. Never
paid any until they showed up at my doorstep which saved me at least half. in Holland they expire after 5 years and they are simply too busy to collect all tickets they wrote out. I still get stopped on Amsterdam Airport once every while and have to pay a little to get through but nothing serious. I haven't had any speeding tickets in the last 3 years and no parking tickets in over 2 years now. Biggest amounts on 1 ticket $950 for speeding on a bike. Got stopped by a roadblock because the civilian police vehicle that chased me couldn't keep up. I had to appear in court and told them I thought some lunitacs tried to hurt me so I tried outrace them which obviously worked. The equipment they used to measure my speed couldn't determine my speed because i was going too fast. I was riding a Kawasaki ZXR 900R which was tuned. I did over 300Km/hour on a 80Km/hour road. The judge bought my story (I did really think this at the time) and let me off with a ticket and a warning if I would get caught again within 2 years I would lose my drivers license for 3 years so I was really lucky. Now I'm not that crazy anymore.....I guess I got older, at times I still speed but nothing extreme anymore. I come from a car/motor racing family and have raced bikes/dirtbikes/carts/ralley myself. Now I realise that racing should only be done on a track No matter how good you can drive speeding in an uncontrolled environment is very dangerous and extremely stupid to do. 1 error.....even not your own could kill innocent people. Allthough I never got into any accidents on public roads I still regret my foolishnes. I guess I just was a lucky bastard. DynaMite :2 cents: |
The last time I got a speeding ticket I was in the fast lane (the only car on the road at the time) and the cop was sitting on the grass in the middle of the southbound and northbound lanes with no lights on. My uncle is a judge so I got the ticket thrown out so the cop wasted his time and ink to write it :)
Ususally in NYC and NJ if you're driving over speed limit and you're not weaving in and out of traffic they leave you alone unless they turn out to be real ball busters. |
in Sept 2002, i was smashed and got nailed for C$480 + 7 demerit points
lucky they let me keep my license and overlooked the fact i reeked of alcohol... i learned my lesson |
154 in 100,(got away with just 15 over) got in the third lane on the 4 lane highway.
151 in 100,(got away with 49 over) got it in the middle lane. It really doesn't matter in what lane you are. Radar detector covers 5-6 lanes. |
speeding ticket? what's that? :321GFY
|
left lane, 80 in a 55:mad:
|
always in the left one :) ... the last was 194 km/h on 130 km/h for about $70 (2000 Czech kronen) ... and the biggest was in the Austria $300 for 155km/h on 100 km/h ... fucking Austrians! :)
|
I've gotten them in all lanes. In a few Diff. states, most in of' em in California.
|
Its funny to hear about all these people getting tickets...
I think the best way to avoid a ticket is to change lanes as little as possible, and when you change lanes...make it count... I drive a consistent 85 usually in the left most lane...or the one next to it. I think the key to avoiding traffic tickets is to not be that guy riding everyones ass switching back and forth between lanes and just generally being a dick... If I look at the traffic ahead of me and don't see a line through it...I hang back...when a chance presents itself I make it count. Then I resume 85 or so until I hit the next chunk of traffic... I recently made it from downtown capitola santa cruz to fair oaks in sacramento in an hour and 50 minutes...its a 162 mile drive. A personal best.. |
It's been years actually, strange because I drive faster than most I see on the road.
My secret...like Hoax said, don't change lanes too often...weaving will only get you noticed |
