Will there be a westcoast webmasters gathering in 2003?
Went to the site to plan out the dates since I thought it would be in a few months but it still has the 2002 schedule.

http://westcoastwebmasters.com/

Anyone hear anything about this annual event for 2003 and if it is going to happen this year?

Last year it was one of the better shows of the year.

Yeah it was one of the better shows. Do you have any pics of the deck thing?

If its gunna happen its gunna be in a few months. So Im suprised there hasnt been any word of it yet.

Im wondering if any sponsors have gotten any inquiries about it yet?

Jeffne 05-19-2003 03:09 PM

Boneprone,

I remember meeting you last year at the show.

Sweet Entertainment usually puts together the show. However, I have been told that they will not be having the show this year.
There was some talk of a couple of other companies out of Vancouver taking it over but it doesn't look like that is going to happen.

It's unfortunate because the show was getting better every year. CCbill was looking forward to sponsering the show again. I considered it one of the better networking gatherings and such a great environment. Good business and fun for all.

Hopefully the show will continue sometime.

Well shit......
I agree it was one of the better shows with a lot of compnaies present.
Vancover was a great city to have the gathering in, and the hotel and area we were in was great too.

Theres no way this is gunna happen huh? Like ya said it was one of the better shows perhaps my favorite of the dozen or so shows I went to in that 2 year period. I dont go to many shows anymore casue ya just get burnt out but the better shows like this one I was hoping to still attend.

Sucks man.. Somone bring it back to life.

I had talked to someone from the Sweet organsation several weeks ago, at that time it was up in the air.Perhaps someone from there could shed a light on this. Altough I would not be suprised if it did not happen due to their Legal probs.:2 cents: and Yes it was a great event last time:thumbsup

so its still up in the air ehh?
Well shit. Thats good news at least its not a definite no.

Intrest, attendance, and sponsorship cant be the problem for a show this good. There was tons of great sponsorship last year and good attendance. I figured it must be due to "other" reasons that this show is not taking off.

damn

boneprone 05-19-2003 03:28 PM

OR maybe im wrong.
Does the event need more sponsorship?

I can go door to door and get sponsors for this event if its needed. I have a feeling i could influence and grab a sponsor or two.

and as for getting the info to webmasters about this event, shit thats easy. Child's Play.

Hey bro...If you are serious.....Call me. I think between the two of us, we may be able to pull this off, even with kinda short notice.

The event always had good sponsership. The show has been getting bigger every year. Sweet Enterainment has always done a great job. I don't speak for SEG but I think they just had alot on their plate this year. Putting togather a quality show year after year is time consumming and takes up a lot of man hours. If someone can pull it off that would be great. We would definitely want to sponser. Let's get it rolling Vancouver webmasters... "if you organize it, they will come" :)

Elli 05-19-2003 04:43 PM

Yep, I've gone two years in a row and I checked out their website a few days ago, too, once I realized the date was coming up (or past). The seminars were great and the people were way fun. Balthazar's last year was way chic. :) Who fed me that Jager again? I have no idea :)

I was assuming it was delayed due to Sweet's legal issues (regarding the 'bust' earlier this year). I do hope it gets going at some point, though! I need a good party (or three!)

Kimmykim 05-19-2003 04:46 PM

I believe they opted not to do it for their own reasons. A few of us have been talking about doing it, just a matter of coagulating the plans and getting it done.

Stay tuned, Aaron, icq me --

Yep you can, get the check book out ;)

Someone had mentioned golf up there -- the course where Happy Gilmore was shot is the club that Nick belongs to, he's on quite nice terms with them I believe --

Check book... you got it... I have the check right here...
Cadwell is with two l's right ;) ....

I played the course last time I was up there. Beautiful scenery throughout that course. Had two murals done recently at the house. One is a scenic hole by the water at that course. Next time you are over you will see it.

I am going up midsummer to get out of the heat, but honestly I think the only feasible time for a show there is going to be after Internext in Fla since its so early this year.

Anyone disagree?

Zebra 05-19-2003 05:49 PM

Glad someone is trying to make this thing happen.
It's always nice to visit Vancouver in the summer.

Of course there is Mexico this week.

Anyone not doing anything should try to make it.
Looks like we have a good crew going this year.
48 hours to go :thumbsup

Kimmykim 05-19-2003 05:52 PM

Yeah there are just too many things too close together to do Vancouver before Internext I think.

We just had Phoenix a month ago, Toronto, Fays got her thing coming up, there's Mexico, all this European stuff -- I've heard tales of a Lake Havasu deal at the end of June, and then Internext the first weekend in August -

I think the early part of September is the best time for it, since there's nothing else that I know of until Fays Vegas show and then January Internext is not until January

Nina's NYC gathering is in September.

Kimmykim 05-19-2003 05:58 PM

Does she have a date yet? Sponsors love Vancouver but they are also paying for Internext, Fays show, Mexico etc all in a short period of time, so we have to take that into consideration -- along with the fact that people can only attend so many shows in so much time. Here in Phoenix it is easy to get there, since Amwest and Air Canada run two nonstops each daily, but other places don't get that luxury and the tickets can be expensive with all the Alaska cruise people headed up there.

Another one of my peeves with mid summer in Van is that if you leave town on a Saturday or Sunday you get to stand in line at the airport for 3 hours with all the people who've just gotten off their cruise ship... makes it miserable when you compare it to the normal 10 minutes thru Customs trip.

I'm not sure who remembers the original Vancouver but it was in early September and then the doubled it one year to get a spring show out of it, which was the week of Easter and the week after the Phoenix Forum, which is also a big draw.

Zebra 05-19-2003 06:06 PM

Hopefully whoever tries to organize this thing will do it at the Pacific Palisades hotel again. The last couple times there have been really enjoyable compared to the hotels other shows have been held at. Not to mention it is a great deal for the money.

That's the one that was mentioned in the discussions I've had with people :)

Sharpie 05-19-2003 07:41 PM

Spmething you have to take into consideration, is all the money going out to legal fees; from this Industry. It has put a lot of peoples budgets in the can. Things are just not the same as they were last year..... things are not even the same as they were in January. ....:feels-hot
