Any Ritalin users here? I took it for 1st time today. How is this different than Adderall?

I'm pretty sure I have undiagnosed adult ADHD as I have all the symptoms to a T. Lately, I have had a lot of trouble sitting still in my desk to work. I find myself finding any excuse to get up to do anything, like wash dishes, straighten up apartment or pace the floor as I talk to myself. Until recently, living in a messy place never bothered me. I'm doing a relaunch of a new business and I feel like I keep self-sabotaging.

Anyway, I remember how some kids had to be prescribed Ritalin in school because they are so hyperactive and can't sit still. Since I had the same feeling lately, I decided to buy some Ritalin over the counter here in Mexico.

I took 10mg at breakfast and about an hour later I felt like I took a hybrid mixture of cocaine, coffee and jet fuel. I thought I would be able to focus more, but my mind was all over the place. I kept overthinking everything. I had to listen to music with a high BPM to stay calm. I felt like it was sensory overload. I went outside to take the trash out and the sun seemed extra bright. Later, I saw cockroach on the sidewalk on the way to the grocery store and started wondering about the biology of those ugly bastards. Once inside the grocery store, I found myself walking extremely quickly through the aisles like a crack addict. I just had this incredible sense of urgency and everyone was in my way. I usually feel like this normally, but x2.

When I went to the checkout, a woman in front of me was holding up the line completely obliviously slowly bagging her items, resulting in the cashier not being able to start scanning my items until she walked away (COVID distancing). I just kept thinking "G@d damn this stupid, oblivious, solipsistic b!tch" so my nerves were already shot at this time. Once she leaves, I immediately bag all my items as the cashier scans them like the efficient and considerate person I try to be, not wasting a single second of idle time.

I pay with my debit card and when I sign the receipt (for some reason there is no pin keypad at this stores checkout) I press too hard on the paper with the pen, tearing the paper, which apparently invalidates the signature.. or at least that's what I surmised given I don't understand all Spanish being spoken to me. So she calls the manager to come over to print out a new receipt for me to sign. If anyone has ever been to certain parts of Mexico, you know that nearly nothing is done quickly, not even fast food. So my heart is racing and I have to keep taking deep breaths to keep calm as I wait for the manage to arrive. I even think a security guard came over by me because it was so obvious I was about to lose it.

I actually think the Ritalin was very similar to Adderall (I have't used it in years), but maybe slightly more intense. Has anyone had the same experience?

Ritalin is obviously not for you. I don't even know what the hell it's for

Jazzix 07-24-2021 07:23 PM

Try Xanex.. works for me

It may be fine if I avoid interaction with incompetent humans.

Sometimes doctors don't know. I've had mine give me shit that fucked me up so bad that I couldn't stand up.

Klen 07-25-2021 12:40 AM

You will simply need to test various drugs till you find right choice, there is no other way. Every human react different to it.

I can tell by your long post that it’s working ;)

k0nr4d 07-25-2021 03:46 AM

It sounds like you need something to calm down, not adderal or ritalin. A beta blocker like Propranolol. I take it sometimes for anxiety - calms you down but doesn't turn you into a zombie. Ritalin is just meth for children.

Yes, that is correct.

Perhaps try soiling yourself? I always find that very calming and relaxing... :2 cents:

Yeah. I don't think Ritalin is for me. I tried it again today and still felt really overstimulated. Some guy was honking his scooter horn outside earlier every 20 seconds for 2 minutes and I was having murderous thoughts because of it. :1orglaugh Modafinil works the best for me out of the "smart drugs" I've tried.

I was surely productive, just not capable of deep thinking. I had no interest in petty things like browsing YouTube or social media as it all seemed like a waste of time. Maybe I could stack with Xanax.

k0nr4d, I’m wondering if you were suggesting the beta blockers with the Ritalin or would they just cancel each other out. Without meds my resting heart rate is in the low 40s as I exercise very often, including distance running.

I'll add my thoughts here in the hopes I can help.

What most people misunderstand about drugs is that they are almost all very *dose dependant* Getting the right dose can have a very particular effect, and that effect can be amplified or even the complete opposite of the effect at a different dose.

I do NOT think you should try stacking Ritalin with Xanax or the like. That may get you high, and you may feel great, but it won't be likely to achieve the focus and productivity you're looking for.

Instead, try cutting the dose to 5mg and see if that moderates the sketchy/angry aspects of the experience. You could even try 2.5mg with a "booster" of another 2.5 or a cup of coffee.

To me, it seems as though you just need a little shift, not a massive leap in your mindset. You've been productive before, and now you're just having a harder time for some reason. A little shift warrants a little help, not a huge slug of what is essentially long-acting pharmaceutical cocaine.

Drugs should be thought of as the seasoning, not the meal. A little salt can make a dish better, a plate of salt as your main course is going to be bad no matter what you do with it :1orglaugh

Let me know if this advice helps!

It will down regulate your dopamine receptors and you will get depressed. Don’t fuck with it

I actually did do 5mg yesterday, resulting in experiencing a milder effect. I greatly appreciate your suggestions and well-articulated thoughts. I may save the Ritalin for when I need to do repetitive, non-creative work.

I have low heart rate too, and also enlarged heart, however i do not run - but i do long walks on regular bases. Funny thing is , when you read info about heart rates, usually having such rate it means you going to die, unless you doing active sport.

scheduling your day helps too. i know its lame but Ben Franklin did it.

narrowing down your work/chore/play time to defined time blocks will make things a lot easier to achieve than saying "i'll do it sometime today".

my work blocks are sacred. they are only allowed to be interrupted by any fucking minor thing anyone wants around here. VR controller died? lemme get new batteries. you're hungry? lemme cook something for you. you need [random] thing from the store? lets go..

i digress....

I should have made this correlation sooner, but I just realized my resting heart rate average has gone up nearly 10 BPM since I started training in boxing on July 13. I may have triggered my mind into "survival mode" or something similar. I think about fighting everyday now. Maybe I need to get back to inner peace like a monk.

This was actually my plan, but it's hard to stick to sometimes. I made a new rule that I cannot leave the house for anything (even groceries, exercise) until I've done at least 4 hours of work. I even considered intermittent fasting but it's really difficult to stay consistent.

Tube Ace 07-26-2021 12:40 PM

Tube Ace 07-26-2021 12:49 PM

I quit smoking pot a couple days before I started boxing training. I guess you could say I stopped getting gassed to stop getting gassed, but now I’m stressed.

“Anxiety is the activation of your fight or flight system, which is meant to keep you safe from harm by ensuring you're running away or fighting without distraction.”

Maybe the new “distraction” is coding work when I’d rather be hitting the heavy bag.

After reading this thread, I'm thinking I might use some Ritalin. At my age, one needs to go faster not slower. I need more up than down these days. I get up in the morning and have a cup of coffee and I'm ready for my breakfast nap.

Yeah, riding a bike nearly every day. Cut sugar way out, I mean really way out considering every damn thing has sugar in it.

This.

As a ritalin baby of the 90's and life long 'ADHD' sufferer, just smoke weed, and set a solid schedule.

Sleep. and sleep at the same time every night, schedule for me was the biggest help, over any drug.

Klen 07-27-2021 03:14 AM

Well, this sounds more like you having anxiety/depression then ADHD.

UPDATE: I've been taking 5 mg at breakfast the past week and had the most productive week I've had in years. Also taking Diphenhydramine (benadryl active ingredient) every night at 8pm has me on a regular sleep cycle for the first time ever in my life. I've been waking up every morning 6-7 AM. Left the weed alone too. I'm alert AF all day while working out and running every day. Feeling great :)

Same here. I would just have racing thoughts about any and everything except what I was supposed to be focused on. I think I may be sensitive to stimulants.

Not regular, consitent times. I would normally wake up after I felt I slept as much as I could which would result in me waking up an hour later every day. Then I would be waking up in the evenings which would make me depressed since I felt like I missed the whole day. I love waking up at 4 am after sleeping well, which would require me to go to sleep at 8pm the night before. I've gone an entire year without using an alarm clock.

This past week I feel like my life is balanced with sleep, work and exercise (not socially, no time for friends).

MrBoink 09-28-2021 12:46 PM

I used to abuse the shit out of Ritalin in University. Use to take 20mg every 5 hours when studying for tests. I would always take it to do all nighter study sessions. The effects were parabolic meaning the first hour I felt like I was the happiest/productive person in the world (I would always randomly start singing to myself because I was happy, that's how I knew it was working), the next 3 hours were normal/productive, then the 5th hour I felt like absolute dog shit and hated every person who would come near me. Those highs and lows would usually mellow out after you used it more.

I stopped using it but if I were to get on it again I would rather try concerta (one of those special pills that releases about 50mg/70mg of methylphenidate into your body slowly over time) those last for like 12 hours. So then there isn't constant highs and lows throughout the day due to that parabolic curve from a single Ritalin pill.

I always thought I was ADHD since middle school. But later on in life I realized all those pills were just mental stuff and I needed to be productive because I just swallowed an expensive pill. I was too much of a bitch to accept I was a lazy student in a position that was uncomfortable for my body. I just had to overcome it naturally without pills.

Whatever fits you my guy. But if its affecting your mood and you're getting angry at people I think it's because you are in the comedown stage of that parabolic curve of Ritalin. That's the time when I would take another pill to bump back up the curve. I think you gotta get one of the pills that has a slow release of methylphenidate overtime.

All of the best.

Thanks for the info, I may look into Concerta. I just had the most productive week in the past 5 years after taking only 5mg at breakfast and coffee at lunch. I'm feeling very motivated and optimistic about work again :)

I think this is very common, and people misdiagnose ADHD when it's really just the fact that you don't want to do bullshit work you hate.
