How would you do this?
After reading about the new domain law thinking about changing our domain name. The site would be the same except the domain name. How would you go about that without fucking up your traffic?

what is your domain?
|
Without fucking up your traffic? Good luck.
|
just have your old domain forward to your new one.. very easy to do :)
|
You cant forward it to the new thats the whole point is to take it off line. Our site is www.mandysplayhouse.com I mean you go there and there is nothing graphic on the front page at all but there things we want to do to grow and I dont want to be in the middle of that and then change. Rather get it done now and bite the bullet.

I wonder what steps the government will do to try and enforce the law...
Sorry though your traffic is prolly gonna bite it:( Then again when I was 19 there was a girl and we all called her house Patties Playhouse and she was rather a little slut. So emm... Ya might have a defense LOL! Get an attorney. |
My lawyer wont give me a definite answer he is like we have to wait for the first case. Who wants to wait for that ? lol. We dont mislead anyone as you can see if you look at the site. There is nothing but a picture of wifes face on the home page but read a article on a webmaster newsletter I got made me think. Most of our traffic comes from top lists ,we havent done links in years.

this is just to grey of an area. whats going to be next i use to go to a bar named TURTLES . so it that miss leading .. some dumb ass walking down the street and sees TURTLES. walks in and see's its a bar. and they have no TURTLES...even thehun someone is doing a collage project on vikings and ends up at thehun...
whats next |
Well, you could change the name to mandysfuckingplayhouse.com :Graucho
|
Just make a backup logo, and purchase a backup domain name.
Then, stick it out. Don't go dumping your shit because of a grey area like this. Most likely, because the law is so grey, they will probably end up sending little C&D notices to people they want to pick on before any action is taken. |
I'd get the new domain name, have a "We've moved" link on the old domain with a redirect script also. On the new domain, tell people to bookmark it. I wouldn't take down the old domain or stop redirecting it until you DO see the first lawsuit (and yours isn't going to be a site they hit first - there are too many that are much worse domain and content-wise :winkwink: ) or you see no more traffic at the old domain.

The new law says you can't have adult material on your website. It doesn't say that a non adult site can't link to an adult one. Maybe it would be ok to move the entire website to a new domain. On your old domain but up a non offensive warning page. Instead of the typical hit "enter" or whatever change it to something like "You are about to visit adultdomain.com. Adultdomain.com is for adults blah blah blah etc." So instead of enter you just link it to the new domain. I would imagine this would be ok but with the new laws and screwy government who knows. I wouldn't forward it though because I don't see how that would be looked at any different. That's like me buying 1000 non adult domains and pointing them to porn. I'm sure that wouldn't hold up in court. |
