NEVER buy a Microsoft mouse!

Has anyone else had bad experiences?

I worked my way through 2 optical intellimouse explorers in as many months. Both stopped working for NO reason. I shouldn't have bought another after the second one went out... now I feel that my wireless is on the way out soon... I've only had it for 2 weeks! and yeah I changed the batteries. That's three mice totalling £160 pissed away, like $230. In ten weeks! With products like this it's no wonder Billy is fucking rolling in cash. :321GFY

Luckily I kept all the documents and receipts for this one (would've kept them all for the second one if I hadn't lost them).

Fuck Microsoft optical, go Logitech.

Funnily enough I have a Logitech mouse on an old P266 machine... it cost like £5 and it still going strong after 3 years, just needs de-fluffing every so often.

MattO 05-14-2003 06:41 PM

just buy a generic 10 dollar one and throw it out when it goes bad

Luc Duboi 05-14-2003 06:41 PM

dont use mouse.

Luc Duboi 05-14-2003 06:42 PM

use TouchPad

KRL 05-14-2003 06:42 PM

Get a Wacom pen and you'll never go back to mousing again.

I initially liked the Microsofts because they fit nicely in the hand, are nice and bulky, and of course they're optical so I don't need a completely flat/smooth surface like a wheeled mouse. And I don't need to take out the wheel and clean shit off those little rollers. Never again! Of course I've got the pad on my laptop but I hate using it, so I don't.

voodooman 05-14-2003 07:01 PM

I had my Microsoft Explorer mouse for 2 years, never had a problem, then I moved to a dry environment, and went through 5 in less than a month, but it was because I kept shocking the damn things.

Mr.Teen 05-14-2003 07:05 PM

I am the EXACT opposite. My microsoft blue mouse which is wireless and optical works fucking great. Then my Logitec wireless optical is a fucking peice, it craps out on me all the time.

Niki 05-14-2003 07:07 PM

M$ mouses are the best of the best! period

Brad Mitchell 05-14-2003 07:07 PM

I'm on my third Logitech Cordless Optical mouse... go figure!

I liked the MS pointers when they had that big ergo feel.

Now it's all about the Logitech dual optical baby:

i got a microsoft trackball some time ago, i never managed to feel comfortable with it. You need to have Divac's fingers to use. I'm using a cheap optical DEXXA. It works great for $15 mouse.

Evil1 05-14-2003 07:20 PM

I bought an MS optical intellimouse when they first came out, in about 3 seconds its going to move the pointer to the "submit reply" button like it's been doing for years without fail.

Theo 05-14-2003 07:22 PM

here's a nice cheap optical logitech

whenever i visit a computer store to get something im checking for such a simple mouse and they never have. They show me some huge ones which I cannot use. Fuckers show me a mouse, not a shoe!

i have two of the mouses (mice?) in question. One i've had for over 3 years, both work fine. :2 cents:

Turboface 05-14-2003 07:27 PM

I swear by my Microsoft Wireless Intellimouse Explorer.

They eat batteries like they're a dyke on Exstacy, but they are simply awesome. I would highly recommend them to all of you.

I have had problems with them, every few months, but that's no big deal. All you have to do is to buy another one - put your old one in the packaging - and return it for a refund.

:Graucho

ldinternet 05-14-2003 07:35 PM

Yeah Turboface, that's exactly what I'm using now. I've tried the older and newer software for it, but I'm not keen. On full speed without pointer precision, the smallest move I can make with the pointer is a leap of about 4 pixels. It's improved with pointer precision enabled, but then, the mouse is too fuckin' slow. :(

buddyjuf 05-14-2003 07:36 PM

I have 2 Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer for BLUETOOT and 1 Logitech MX700

never had a problem with any of them, if you want, you can call microsoft and get a free replacement, Im serious

suer 05-14-2003 08:16 PM

I have a new "Logitech" and i'm not happy with it

Probono 05-14-2003 09:13 PM

I've been using my radio shack mouse i paid like 10 dollars for over 2 years now, im jsut waiting for it to die so I can get wireless combo... die you fucking mouse! DIE

thatdykeliz 05-14-2003 09:38 PM

I bought one of those vertical mice -- http://www.evoluent.biz/ -- and I adored it. The only reason I'm not using it right now is that my cat went rip-assing past my desk, got the mouse cord caught around her, and completely yanked the cord out of the plug. Not just yanked it out of the socket, which she'd done before, but ripped the wire out of the plug end. I had to power down the computer and pry the plug out of the socket with a pair of pliers. :(

It's kind of funny now, although at the time I was furious -- my cat killed my mouse. :1orglaugh

I adore the vert. mouse, though...it feels funny at first, but you get used to it really fast, and it helped keep my hands from cramping up and getting cold and cramped. And it was an optical mouse, too, so no cleaning the little ball inside. They kick ass. :thumbsup

Quite. Call (800) 360-7561 if you ever have a problem with any Microsoft hardware. Just be in the warranty period, and they'll ship you out a new product.

BTW, the Bluetooth from Microsoft is sweet. I've been happy.

Liz...go wireless. No kitty-cord mishaps ever again. :)

grogan 05-14-2003 10:07 PM

My microsoft wireless optical mouse is awsome. Sooooo comfy, scroll wheel (of course) and forward/back buttons that are very usefull for i.e. Couldnt live without it, best mouse I ever bought. It's the grey one that costs like 10 bucks more than the blue one.

d0se 05-14-2003 10:08 PM

I have an old 6x8 Wacom pen tablet (the all white one), and it kicks ass for graphical design work. *Anyone* doing any visual design should check them out... it's light years beyond using a mouse.

However, I've found that even my medium-sized tablet is WAY the hell too big and inconvenient to use it for GUI navigation. I've even tried their "virtual-size" thing to minimize the length my arm has to travel... it's just so much easter to grab a mouse or trackball set to high sensitivity and use it than it is to grab a pen and use it.

My ideal solution is to use a tablet for design, and a trackball for navigation... but I have big hands, and all the recent trackball designs suck-ass for me :/ Give me a big ball, not a fucking tiny-ass thumb-ball!

I smell an AC/DC song somewhere in my post :thumbsup

markell 05-15-2003 03:23 AM

my inteli mouse exp0orer owns u all

muchmoreporn 05-15-2003 03:24 AM

Matt_WildCash 05-15-2003 03:25 AM

Damn sorry to hear your misfortune with the mouses, personally I can't get enough of my microsoft mouses, they just NEVER break down for me. Since the opticial ones came out I stopped replacing mouses.

Ron2k1 05-15-2003 04:09 AM

I bought me an optical mouse for less then 10$ a few months ago, and it's the best mouse I have ever had

I've got the most basic Microsoft Optical mouse you can get. 3 button wheel optical. Thing's been going strong for years. All my mates with the better model (the 5 button explorer mouse) have had problems. Go figure.
