Ibill's Cvv2 implementation affecting rebills?

Recently Ibill started to reject signups without a Cvv2... Does Ibill expire old subscriptions without Cvv2? Because they delete more than usual amount of usernames lately.

EscortBiz 05-14-2003 10:35 AM

nope I promote a few people using ibill and see rebills like normal

Kimmykim 05-14-2003 10:37 AM

cvv2 would not apply to rebills since it's against the card issuers regulations to store or keep cvv2. Therefore rebills should not have cvv2 attached to them... it should only be used on initial trans as a method of verification, and with that said, it's still only applicable when the card issuing bank supports it in the verification process.

Alot of Euro banks don't support it, nor does Paypal's debit card support it.

Nope, that's why any time I try to book an America West flight online I have to call in to use that card... no problems with booking online with the B of A card tho...

From what I gathered last weekend at the Paypal Connect thingie, these guys are really smart in some areas and completely clueless in others.

Things I consider simple, like basic fraud control, is so far behind what we do that it's laughable. And I think their customer service is pretty much non-existent for merchants when an issue arises, though they seem to have debuted a system that maybe will help that, and they claim not to be freezing entire accounts over a dispute, just the disputed amount at this point. Their consistent claims that they are not a bank, while then making light of the 'FDIC pass thru rule' on insurance did tend to make me quite nervous.

But on the other hand, the currency conversion schemes, the integrated shipping center and ability to print UPS labels directly from your account, now these are some toys that really make what Paypal does stand out.

Nice offer, omnipotent, but I think you'd realize you got a bad deal when you realized that other than being able to cook restaurant quality meals, I am domestically impaired ;)

psyko514 05-14-2003 03:29 PM

why exactly do they bother to print a CVV2 on the card is they don't support verification of the number? let me guess... "It's on the way"

adjektiv 05-14-2003 09:19 PM

I usually get 5-10 Ibill joins a day. The last two days I have had zero. Anyone else having a problem or is it just my bad luck?

:fart

Ludedude 05-14-2003 09:27 PM

Cards are automatically assigned a cvv2, I dunno that the printers would print without them, but when the acquiring bank asks the issuing bank to verify the number on the initial transaction, many of the issuing banks are technologically unable to give that answer to them. Thus, unsupported.

Just another of those things that was a good idea in theory but was not strictly enforced and made into an effective control measure.

I'm wondering if there is a difference for the EU guys as opposed to the US guys.

I'm EU and I have been seeing things down about 23%.

Damn nice stats Escort.

My rebills went through like normal today, just lots of cancels for me :( Sign ups also sucked ass.

Hopefully tomorrow will be better.

Don't know what Paypal debit card you have but mine is a mastercard and it has a cvv2. It also pays me 1.5% cashback each time I charge with it.

Evidentally, you didn't read her explanation.

Try reading it again, but pay attention this time.

Biggy2 05-15-2003 12:21 AM

could be the summer slowdown.

NoVisaNoMC 05-15-2003 12:50 AM

I know many programs using ibill that the joins are down 30 - 50 percent since last Tuesday.

At paysystems.com it is even worse.

Last Tuesday was the day the cvv number became a requirement on all join pages.

I find it has come down to this.

Most people have never used the cvv number.

Unless your join page clearly explains what it is and where to find it on the credit card you are going to be loosing sign ups.

There are enough people saying signups have noticibly declined at the same time that the CVV2 requirement started for it to be directly related to that.

I've been doing this for so long, you'd think it wouldn't phase me much, but I still get the sweats when I see anything start to fall off the norms on the stats. I love stats and sometimes I plain hate stats. They are maddening and worse than being on crack. They fuck with your head all the time. And they always come back when you really start to get that worried feeling inside, just to give you that final messing with you jab.

Biggy2 05-15-2003 01:02 AM

Just checked my sponsor's page, and apparently IBILL's join page does explain it to some extent.. they are showing a Credit Card with the little number squared out in red...

Any comment from IBILL?
