The dollar itself is shit, 1 dollar gets me like 0.9 euro or something. Maybe I should charge euros instead of dollars

The question is how long before it tanks again. This is only a temporary situation.

Ray@TastyDollars 05-13-2003 03:47 PM

Dear Sasha:

What's the date at the top of the newspaper you're reading.

You're days late and lots of dollars short.

Think before you post.

:)

it's pretty obviously that by falling, he means the disparity between the Canadian and US dollar.

the american dollar was overvalued. until the economy gets moving, budget gets in order and the currant account deficit drops you won't see the american dollar rebounding much if at all.

agreed. it will be a very long time until you see it at the levels (relative to CAD) it once was.

It may be obvious, but they failed to make the point come across, thusly coming off as an idiot.

When the dollar climbs and one says it's falling and it's shit, they're obviously very narrow minded and only think of it in relation to one thing. But what does it matter. Stupid is as stupid does.

Is it nessesary to go around calling people "idiot" and "stupid"? I think not.

this affects Canadians making money in US funds *massively*. it has as large an effect as anything I can think of.

i'll make roughly $50,000 CAD less this month, than I would have when the conversion was sitting at 1.6...

I very much agree it affects Canadians making money in US funds, my bottom line has been hurt very much by the raising Canadian dollar, but it also boades well for other industries who were suffering due to a stagnant economy and slow markets. It's a toss up, but saying it's shit because the US->CDN conversion is falling is hardly an accurate assessment of the situtation.

i don't run a business in 'other industries'. i'm concerned with my own.

Diversification is always good. It'd also be nice to see other industries in our country prosper for awhile.

short term this is what the american economy needs. but once the economy recovers its best for things to go back to where they were a year ago.

for canadian companies, this is the time to invest in products from the states that can increase productivity. then once the dollar here drops, canadian exporters will be in a better competitive position. i would like to see our government try to push through incentives for canadian businesses to get this type of investments rolling.

That would be ideal, however we all know that our goverment isn't going to do anything that will in fact benifit industry since they're going to assume that our dollar is going to keep rising. (Sure, it may for a few weeks, months, or even a year) but it will fall again and things will return to semi-normal. It'd be nice to see industry profit from this tip of the scale. This is a great opportunity for imports, however exporters are going to be hurt on their bottom line.

many other industries outside of ours depend on a weak dollar as well.

as far as seeing other industries prosper - that is their own issue to deal with. i run a business as a business. part of my business is more or less being in the exchange rate market. so i will always welcome a weaker CAD. which is very unlikely in the coming year. it was good while it lasted, and i'm glad i pulled the majority of my US currency into CAD at 1.6+ (against the advice of my bank)...
