Hotels & computers
What do I need on my computer to connect to the net from a foreign country with my laptop?
The hotel's brochure says this : "....and rooms offer dataports for computer connectivity" What does that mean exactly? Any experience on the rates the little bloodsuckers want for data transfer? |
Most likely its free and you need an Ethernet card and

Hmm. How in the hell am I gonna get an ISP account in the US for a few weeks? Anyone know if the dialing tone is same from an european modem than one there? |

ISP dialup accounts are not hard to come by. You could sign up for Earthlink dialup in Finland and use the account here. They have an 800 number you can call to get dialup numbers for wherever you're at. Just pay $20 or whatever for a month and cancel when you're done. |
When travelling in the states, I usually just get an AOL account for a month. Hell you can get it for free often times.

I have to pay myself and my gf to internext, the trip will cost me a months income IF I stay in holiday inn or something cheap.
But I can't live without a computer for 2 weeks! So, I'm trying to figure out if I should spend a bit more and get a hotel with high-speed internet..haven't found any yet that isn't too expensive for me. The other option is to be nice to my girl and leave computer @ home. She wants to spend quality time with me. |

Good topic to bring up TGF. We were looking at prices for a month in the Med toward the end of the year and there are some nice, all inclusive resorts for VERY reasonable prices. Only problem is that I can't imagine they have internet access in the rooms. Nice resorts but a bit outdated in a technical sense I'd imagine. So I was trying to figure out what the best way to connect (fairly high speed) with a mobile phone and what would it cost. Would it be worth it to go away if we are going to pay stupid amounts just to connect to the internet? Probably not. A month in the Med over Christmas at a resort where all your food, drink, and alcohol sounds blissful but not if we can't work at least some of the time while we are there.
Hmmm, a conundrum indeed. Quiet, have you run into this situation? Like TGF says, you are filthy rich :winkwink: and can afford to pay whatever it takes but I'd imagine you'd go for the cheapest option. Come across anything reasonable? Edit: Great link Quiet - there aren't any in Malta though!!:glugglug: |
