Cheap broadband in 3rd-world/developing countries?

I haven't traveled for ages. But ironically one of the things that attracted me to working online was the notion of being able to work from anywhere I wanted. I'd love to spend a year-or-two working from somewhere completely different and ideally where things are cheap so I can save some money in the process.

Can anyone suggest any countries where the cost of living is low and where broadband Internet access is reliable and affordable, eg. a 128k+ connection with at least 5GB bandwidth for less than US$100/month? It would also be useful if it was somewhere that they won't jail me for building pornsites :)

Some of the countries I've considered are Thailand, India and Mexico. But when I've done some research, I've found that broadband is either expensive, unreliable or non-existent. Does anyone have any suggestions?

The Dominican Republic, im currently in the process of getting my design company incorporated in a free zone down there. You have to do some research tough, i.eg some places there have power downtime 5-7 hours a DAY. The climate there is perfect and one of the best in the world, and living is very cheap.

Some sites you can check out:

www.escapeartist.com

Good luck,
Anders

you're missinformed...Romania is not a 3rd world country.

also 5gb bandwith of 128k speed sounds stupid to me... maybe 5gb traffic... anyway it's wrong too:

www.rdslink.ro - $39 / month 256kbps unlimited traffic
www.astral.ro - $29 / month 128kbps unlimited traffic

Those prices are excellent! I've never been to Romania. Do many people speak English? How much rent would you pay for an average two-bedroom apartment?

Do you have any idea what 128k+ internet access with 5GB bandwidth a month would cost? It's my understanding that most people do not speak English in DR, is that correct?

Hey Carlito, until your post I knew nothing about Malta, other than it was an island in the Mediterranean near Italy. But I've since done some research and it sounds perfect -- cheap broadband, cheap house rentals and most people speak English. Have you spent much time there? If so, could I could hit you up on ICQ (mine is 11041152) and ask a few questions?
