Suit Seeks to Ban Kids From Eating Oreos

(AP) - Kids in California may have to give up their Oreos, if a lawsuit filed by a San Francisco public interest lawyer is successful. The lawsuit, filed last week in Marin County superior court, seeks a ban on the black and white cookies, arguing the trans fats that make the filling creamy and the cookie crisp are too dangerous for children to eat

America dream land of lawyers.

How about parental control if they think it's so dangerous.

can i then sue oreo since they were bad for me?

Marissa 05-13-2003 11:30 AM

Seems like they are getting carried away with suing food companies because their kids are eating it. This is as bad as the lawsuit tjhose people had against McDonald's because their kids were extremely overweight......how about a little parental control rather than running to the nearest law office and filing a suit? No one forced them to eat it :disgust

I agree to some extent. Food manufacturers should be required to warn people if they're going to stuff their products with shit they know is harmful to increase profit margins.

Its not like they have to use transfats. They do it because its cheaper, it allows them to call things "low fat", and while most people have at least heard of transfats, they don't necessarily associate the partially hydrogenated oils on the labels with them.

Oh for fuck's sake. America, the land of the lawsuit.

This is absolutely ghey. (Nevermind the fact that the lawyer filing the suit is from San Fransisco) When did it become the government's responsibility to dictate what kids can eat? Shouldn't the parents be held responsible for thier kids being obese; after all, aren't parents the ones who purchase the food for the family?

Fuck this lawsuit, and somebody smack the shit out of the lawyer who filed it. :2 cents:

Oreos suck anyway.

;)

jasonir 05-13-2003 12:12 PM

Some people go too far. This reminds me of the couple that sued McDonald's because eating there made them fat. :ugone2far

A couple years back a phone sex operator in Florida did exactly that.

I'm sure KRL knows of the case, maybe someone has a link?

This operator needed to get surgery for carpul tunnel (sp?) and sued her boss, claiming that her carpul tunnel was caused by masturbating to help get her clients off.

I think she won, too.

What is it the liberals love to say to mock conservatives? "America: Land of the Free." Ouch.

what people DON'T do in this country is READ THE FUCKING NUTRITIONAL INFORMATION. it's right there on the oreo package. if you don't like what you see, don't feed it to your kids or eat it. you can get nutritional info at mcd simply by asking.

people are too fucking lazy. why blame your problem on someone else when you can just fix it????????????

you can't read what isn't there thought, basschick.

the point in the article basschick is that companies are not required to list these transfatty whatevers on their packages.... they're hidden in the listing elsewhere.

the guy with lawsuit has done exactly what he set out to do and that is raise the profile of this 'problem'

DAH, its a cookie, what we in today's society call sweets, and hey guess what they are not good for us.. We already knew that.
