What is a good car to buy under 10,000?

Right now i got a Mitsubishi Mirage LS Coupe 2 door, 1995, value of it is about 3000$ if i was to sell it. I'm thinking of getting rid of it and getting something better. Anyone got any suggestions on what car I should look into at a reasonable price that will be reliable and where parts won't be fucking expensive.. ?

You need to seek out a used Yugo!

PR_Phil 05-12-2003 02:42 PM

Do you like your Mitsu? I drive a 96 AWD Talon Turbo and I love it, driving is always fun, even in traffic, and on a long journey, I can set the cruise and pretty much fall asleep and it stays on the road. Have never hat to put cash into repairs! maybe that's not what you are looking for though

My car has just died today.

I sell it to you for that 10k bucks. It's a big deal, you only have to put a new engine on it.

By all means... go out and buy a CLK-GTR, as long as you're paying cash for it. How many people get a loan so they can ride in a brand new M3? Exactly my point. Don't want to live beyond your means... fuck credit, fuck the banks, fuck everyone. :321GFY

For $18k you can have a brand new Saxo VTS...

Nissan Altmia $17,895 MSRP
*
4-Cylinder (175 hp)
The 175-hp 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine is a wonder in itself. It shares key engineering with its V6 sibling, plus adds a compact balancer system to help ensure it runs V6-smooth. Altima's more economical engine is still more powerful than the 157-hp Camry 4-cylinder and the 160-hp Accord 4-cylinder.
2003 Altima versus 2003 Camry and Accord.
*:thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup

Pontiac Sunfire. Cheap and reliable. My mom had one and she never had a problem with it, other than usual maintenance stuff.

P-K 05-12-2003 06:34 PM

thanks for the replies guys...im thinking, maybe i should just drive this car til its dead and then hopefuly by that time i can get myself a 600 benz? That would be nice..

mean ellie 05-12-2003 07:10 PM

a honda ......get a used one, even at like 20k miles. With your trade in or selling it privately, you should spend about 10k.

you'll never have to worry. they run forever. parts are easy to find. and they keep their value for when you're ready to sell it and get the benz!

Dmitry 05-13-2003 01:43 AM

Used Honda Prelude 2.2 VTEC engine, 200 hps, manual transmition ~1996-98
I think it is under $10k

KRL 05-13-2003 02:02 AM

Invest $9,999 of your 10K and just go with this instead.

http://www.delorean-owners.org/marke.../83turismo.jpg

If you invest shrewdly one day you'll be able to get one of these.

Get a Hyuandai Coupe FX, cheap car but sporty and relatively fast too. For $10.000 you should be able to get something really nice

Or, get a Toyota Celica, looks even better than the Hyundai Coupe but also a bit more expensive... so usually for the same $10k you'll end up with a Celica that's a bit older than if you'd buy the Hyundai.

Still, both are great cars.

Oh man, no offense, but I wouldn't recommend to anyone buying a Hyundai anything unless one is a maintenance masochist.

I also wouldn't recommend Geo Metros as they are death traps if you get in an accident (last time I checked they were at the top of being worst for death in auto accidents).

Saturn's are outstanding cars for insurance and safety although I'm not sure you can get into them for under 10k. It's worth the extra $$ though in what you will save if you buy a car that's good on insurance.

Sporty anything unfortunately is going to be higher $$ on insurance, so might want to keep that in mind.

Happy shopping to you :)

Squishy 05-13-2003 06:08 AM

A mid 90's Camry will run for all the rest of your days.

I own a Hyundai Coupe FX and it's working perfectly for me... No maintenance on my part whatsoever except for oil and gas ofcourse :) Maintenance checks are once every 20.000 kilometres, that's really not that bad for a relatively new car.

As soon as my situation allows it, I'm gonna buy something better, but it's an awesome car if you're on a 10k budget, at least, that's my experience

What kind of car are you seeking? Just for family or for racing or something else? New car or an old one?

I hope thats Canadian dollars. A brand new Saxo VTS in our country is £10,000 which is around $15000 US

Insurance is expensive for it tho.....

ldinternet 05-13-2003 06:42 AM

According to the manufacturer's website, £12K.

ldinternet 05-13-2003 06:44 AM

Of course they rape the buyer with part exchange.... £2k for your '99 Aston Martin, then knock off £5 for some bullshit goodwill, add £a-stupid-amount for metallic paint, then put £1 of petrol in the car and call it "a full tank".

Fuckin' dealers. :321GFY

DarkJedi 05-13-2003 06:45 AM

Like Camry.

No offence, but that's actually a Lada. It's not Russian.

the indigo 05-13-2003 06:59 AM

Honda Accord... or Mazda / Acura (and stay away from US cars)

Good price and extremely reliable. Buy from a woman.

Forget reliability if you buy used sport cars, turbo cars... etc...
