Car Guys - Is 8BHP and 10 Torque much of a gain?
https://i.imgur.com/zIuqdDO.png
https://i.imgur.com/wfIi7gD.png Looking at a remap for one of my cars. The Beemer gets a raise of 30BHP but this one would only get 8? Would 8BHP (and 10 Torque) make a noticeable difference? :helpme |
hey, car girls and guys :)
tbh, on a little mzda, if you´re not upgrading other things like the injectors or the air system, the remap is probably all it may upgrade... we upgraded the exhaust and tyres, air intake on a primera GT and you could feel the difference, a remap would have upgraded about 20bh too, but never got around to doing the remap, bought the skyline instead :thumbsup |
Looks like thats an MX-5 NC, according to wiki it weights around ~1150kg (2.500lbs), so its a relatively light car..

Honestly, your not going to get a lot more out of it without serious modifications. Honestly, if you want more HP then change the engine. |

Now as I don't exactly have the knowledge to gauge as to how much one HP is, I am wondering if I had 8 more, would I notice any difference, or would the difference be just 'on paper' so to speak? I know if they had offered me say a gain of 50, I wouldn't have asked the question. |

If your turds were 6% bigger, would you notice? I bet you would. If my turds were 6% bigger, would I notice? nope Conclusion: it depends on your perspective and knowledge, if you feel much of a difference. Buy a Borla Exhaust and you will fit right in with the locals at the pub |

I have no frame of reference for HP... But I sure do for turds - Very much so. Spanks again X :thumbsup |
It would be roughly the same difference you feel as when you have a passenger in the car vs not.

8HP is NOT a lot of gain and then again I've got a 1935 ford that only has 84HP. So, I would jump for joy at an extra 8HP. My question therefore is, why do you want or need more HP? What I'm getting at is that it pretty much comes down to that when you're dealing with a 1.8l engine and just 8HP. ((But if they're giving you the upgrade for free then go for it)) On that note.... Horsepower is actually a difficult calculation. In the very most basic (and inaccurate) definition used by car collecting hobbyists like myself... Horsepower is the ability of 1 draft horse to lift 1 ton the distance of 1 inch using a single overhead pulley. This graphic gives a better understanding https://i.imgur.com/Xz5fgcp.jpg |
Not much gain but remaps often make a car more driveable and smoother.
From the factory, the map will be all about emmissions (on newer cars) so a map can improve things. I had a map on a 300hp car and ignoring the extra power, the thing i first noticed was just how much nicer (not faster) it was to drive in town. On thing to note is if you have a manufacture warranty on your car, any map will prob void it if anything goes wrong as they can detect changes to the ECU. |
ECU remaps, flashes, tunes, etc can squeeze more out of even the miata's NA 1.8L. You'll have to run premium gas. You may feel a bit more throttle response or it may be a placebo given the 5% gains like everyone else says here.
To maximize the output of the tune you'll have to do intake and header as well. On the NC miata the biggest restriction is that catted header. Lots of advice here: https://forum.miata.net/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=110 |
Not much of a gain. Are you still in warranty? Might want to see what voids it.
|
in a car as light as that you might notice the 8% gain and if nothing else it will sound more healthy. If the cost isn't that much I say go for it. but then again if you lost 10% of your weight the car might go 10% faster :1orglaugh

second, it was a GTR you fucking moron, it was my car and I sold it when we moved here to Spain because we didn´t want to spend 4 grand putting a Spanish plate on it, you fucking moron gypsy. Stop harassing me, you´ll get the ban hammer soon! Every time I comment or post, you´re somewhere around, sniffing my ass hole and posting some shit BS about me or Gary, now fuck off Ferus, grow up, get a life! @CS, as said, you want to look at maybe the air intake, getting more air into the engine will improve the engine dramatically and again with the exhaust, probably 15 to 20 hp extra and then another 2 hp from your re map, so the remap will be 10hp, you´ll have another 20 to 30bp on that tiny car, enough to get 0-60, 2 seconds quicker, probably 7 seconds, and another 10 mpg top end... also think about changing the injectors and sparks... people spend 20 to 50 grand on car mods to make them a lot different, new fast flow water cooling and much more! |

personally i think you should look at the sparks and air intake, just add a mushroom box, clean air, and then maybe speak to them about remapping, it´s worth it considering you get better fuel economy too :thumbsup |
