Do you play any musical instruments?

I play bass in my band! Been playing in a band for about 2 years. Most likely we'll be recording this summer.. We mix up all kinds of sounds.. We try everything.. I think we've developed a pretty special sound.. Grungy punk electronica that's great to chill to. :-)

Corleone 05-12-2003 05:10 AM

dapproid 05-12-2003 05:12 AM

Sarah_Jayne 05-12-2003 05:18 AM

I played the trumpet for 5 years in school. Started out being fairly decent and became sucky. However, it did my breath control a world of good.

I used to do that.. have a few friends that dj for a living.. chicks dig 'em.. but they dig bass players even more :-)

thatdykeliz 05-12-2003 05:37 AM

I used to have a trap drum set, played rock drums...not really with any intention of ever being in a band, just because I really dig drumming. It's funny, I was just thinking about all that, was downloading a bunch of Stomp clips on Kazaa.

Ever seen or heard those guys? Wicked stuff...they drum on anything they can get their hands on -- I've seen them do pieces using pushbrooms, trashcan lids, even playing cards and kitchen utensils. :thumbsup

PerfectionGirls 05-12-2003 07:18 AM

Trumpet for 29 years and yeah... I DONT suck. I also play Piano, sax, trombone and a few other instruments.

Sarah_Jayne 05-12-2003 07:22 AM

I do wish that I hadn't started to suck but I wanted to be a journalist and band sessionals and journalism class were always schdeuled against each other. I guess my passions sided more with the writing.

Undutchable 05-12-2003 07:23 AM

Sassyass 05-12-2003 07:41 AM

took 13 years of classical piano.

NJ Dave 05-12-2003 07:43 AM

17 years of piano, 12 of trumpet.

Also can play sax, trombone, clarinet, and a wee bit of guitar.

netstarz 05-12-2003 08:01 AM

Keys, bass, guitar, drums used to play trumpet. Now I fake it all doing sequencing/editing for recording projects in the area. Play bass for fun in a local band.

thatdykeliz 05-12-2003 08:34 AM

If we're gonna mention singing, I do that too, occasionally. I'm in the Society for Creative Anachronism, and I used to do a lot of singing for events, singing medieval and Renaissance period songs, along with filk songs, too.

My favorite one to perform was "The Scotsman" -- you may have heard it on the radio, Dr. Demento, etc, about a Scotsman who gets drunk, passes out, and two pretty girls come along, lift his kilt to admire his goods, and then leave a blue hair ribbon tied around his cock. The Scot wakes up to take a piss, and when he lifts his kilt and sees the ribbon, he gasps out, "Och, lad, I dunno where ye been, but I see ye won first prize!"

I also used to do more traditional stuff like "Greensleeves", "Rose, Rose", etc...lots of fun. Nothing like getting up to sing, dressed in medieval garb, in front of a crowd of other people dressed the same way, at an authentic medieval feast. :) Yes, I am a re-creationist geek.

TheMOB, what's the name of your band?

gigi 05-12-2003 09:10 AM

Took 9 years of piano lessons as a child/teen. Also play alto-clarinet, bass-clarinet, Irish Flute, piccolo and a little guitar.

I love playing just about any instrument I get in my hands... (save brass...lol)

Danny_C 05-12-2003 09:14 AM

I play guitar.

gruffy 05-12-2003 09:51 AM

12 whole years of jazz, flamenco, classical, fusion, death metal and all other forms of real music for the guitar.

Buff 05-12-2003 10:02 AM

I don't play any instruments, but I made out with Fiona Apple like 3 years ago.

rocki 05-12-2003 10:30 AM

8 years of lessons and allstate competitions with classical Piano
6 years of lessons with classical Violin
1 year of lessons with classical Viola
12 years of lessons with classical Cello. My cello teacher was tought by Yo Yo Ma and i won 3 scholorships for site reading and one of those scholorships gave me the chance to be the youngest cello playing to play a concert with the Philharmonic of fort lauderdale.

The sad thing is i have 2 cello's, 1 viola, and a beautful baldwin babygrand at home and i haven't play any of them in years. i'm such a waste of talent!

Nice, I got a Guild JFN-55, a Fender Stratocaster ( lace sensor) from 1995 that is a reissue of a 1959 and also a Martin 000-15.

The Martin 000-15 is an amazing instrument. I think its a replica of a 30's martin M series. No fancy inlays, no laminate, just raw finished wood. Its got the blues.

Ever hit the Ren faire up in Pennsylvania ?

SykkBoy 05-12-2003 11:07 AM

started out as a mediocre guitarist (a much better songriter than player), then became the vocalist of a speed metal band in high school and found it eaiser to play bass rather than guitar while singing, so started playing bass (besides, we needed a bass player) and really feel in love with bass and became a much better bass player than guitar player.
I've been a vocalist in a couple bands (I mainly did the screaming/yelling stuff, I'm a vocalist, not a fucking singer ;))

I'll also fiddle around on banjo and piano

I was in a band that did speed/thrash vesions of country songs so started playing banjo to add some odd sounds to the already odd stuff we were ounding out anyways

I'm mulling breaking out some of the songs I've written (over 200 pages of lyrics) and start recording some new stuff...

ENVY!!!

I've been singing (non-professionally *sniff*) for 18 of my 24 years. I LOVE IT but very rarely get a chance to perform anymore.

I've played piano for nearly as long but since I have no piano or keybord on which to practice now and haven't for the past 5 years I'd imagine I'm pretty rusty.

porncore 05-13-2003 04:36 PM

Nope. We did the SCA events in South Texas for about 7 years or so. I never got up to Houston for the Renaissance Fest there, mostly because of the distance but also because Texas RenFaire is MUCH stricter about garb than the SCA -- if you were going to work a booth for the SCA at RenFaire, you had to be accurate down to hairstyle and frickin' shoes, and they didn't like to see glasses, watches, or modern cigarettes, etc...I'd die if I couldn't pull out a pack of Kools from my waist pouch and light up.

(Although one time when I was lighting up, I almost set my sleeve on fire -- I was wearing a dress with HUGE belled sleeves that hung almost down to the ground, and just as held my lighter up to my cig, the wind kicked up and whipped my sleeve across my face...:feels-hot ARGGGH!)

Nina 05-13-2003 09:51 PM

I used to play the cello...
I'd love to take it up again if I could ever find the time.
