Anyone use Wix?

A neighbor of mine wants to set up his own website (he's a naturopath) and just wants something easy to use to display his practice and his bio and contact.

He asked for some suggestions and Wix is the only one I could come up with.

Anyone have any feedback on it?

Any other hosting recommendations that provide cheap plans, easy to use website templates for non webmasters (drag and drop changes to site etc...) and take care of installing SSL certificates etc...

He's not tech savvy and just wants something easy to use but on his own domain name. I'll help him buy the name and set up the nameservers but after that he wants to be able to just login and make changes when he needs to.

Thanks

No other suggestions, but Wix would be the first thing that sprung to my mind in that situation.

With Wix you are stuck with monthly fees .. forever!! I am sure there are guys here who can built something simple like that for 3 or 4 hundred bucks.

Wix for a newbie, otherwise they will be pestering you to help them. Everything has a learning curve, most don't want to invest the time in learning how to do it themselves.

Still need to pay for web hosting. Any updates the buyer wants would need to be addressed as well.

There may be cheaper ways to go, but Wix is a good solution for small businesses, consultants and people of that nature that just need "something" online but will really put no effort into it. Going beyond Wix will add unnecessary complications.

wix(xen) is German slang for wanking - that alone would make me never use them

I see many, many small breweries starting off with wix.

How come? What's wrong with wanking? I'm doing it right now!

Wix is easy to use and you don’t have to send hundreds on a wp site so yea a lot of people use it.

Yeah that's what I was afraid of. It's been my experience too that most people don't want to learn which is fine, but then I won't do it for them.

Even a "non geek" like me knows that hosting is NOT free. The OP ask about building a site. I have suggested to give some business to GFY guys before going to a platform like Wix

Try Blogger from Google. Support for your domain, SSL-certificate and simple interface for creating a blog.

A webmaster should know better than to suggest those kinds of services to build and maintain a website.
