Anyone know some cool spots to chill and drink and smoke up in LA?

None of that Garden of Eden or The Gate shit...don't feel like waiting in line and paying $20 at the door just to spend another $10 per drink that's the size of a shot glass.

You local? What type of place do you want to go to? Environment wise, college boys, thugged out homies, vatos, or a punk club? Rock dive?

I'm from Newport...dont' get up to LA as much as I want to. I got some friends in from out of town, not sure what the "LA" experience is really, lol. Sightings of Ben Affleck or Cameron Diaz?
Maybe some sort of trendy dive. someone recommended "Cantina Something" accross from the Standard on Sunset....

Something on the dive side, but trendy and fun. Fuck, I don't know!

Little Knight is too upscale, I need somewhere that is less trendy and the patrons have tattoos and piercings.

I don't know about smoking up in LA, since there's no smoking indoors, but there's a really cool bar in Santa Monica called Circle Bar (2926 Main St). Lots of hotties on the weekends, really chilled atmosphere, early 20s -mid 30s crowd, good DJs. Bartenders are quick on the gun and really cool.

It's a lot like Phillips in New Orleans.

when i was in LA i went to the standard downtown. i think you have to know someone to get in though, and drinks are way too expensive. it was a cool club though.

Circle bar is good. This 1:30 last call shit is totally new to me. How about a nice dive bar with a good selection of beer (on tap) in the valley? Better yet, how about any place with a good selection of beer on tap besides Barney's Beanery?

You got this one right. Saturday and Sundays are good there...

I'm not completely sure of the name, I think it's Moose & McQuigley's or something similar to that.. bar with a very famous pool hall, called Q's, where Steve "The Miz" Mizerak used to go all the time, located in Old Pasadena, outside of LA.

I went once and the ladies were fly, drinks made right (I'm a martini man so it takes a well made drink to please me) and music wasn't too loud.

There's also a really cool sushi place nearby, I also don't know the name but I'm sure you can find it with a little research or asking around. It's a well known joint where they have a huge oblong bar that you sit around, and little wooden boats float around it on water, with plates of sushi on the boats. You pick off what you want as it floats past. Prepare to spend, however, my girlfriend at the time and I spent $130 there.

There is a bar called north its dope hot girl every where but its not cheap for drinks call 411 :)

Q's is in both Old Town and Glendale. On the corner of Colorado and Raymond, Old town Pasadena. We had vip back when Q's was the place, lots of fun.

And the other would be "Moose Mc Gillycuddy's" Which is also in San Diego, Hawaii amont other locations. Isn't that cool, is best for sports and good fish tacos.

The sushi pace you refer to is Sushi a float, located next to Q's. Rockin Sushi is actually funner, less expensive and better sushi, more chicks,imo, is on the other side of Raymond..

The cool bars in old town are Jakes, 35'r, Twin Palms..

People have been known to light up by the pool at The Standard at all times of the day.

If you really wanna smoke go grab a table at the Beer Garden on the north end of Venice beach at dusk. Still a few crazy young and free babes hanging around and there's very little hassle from the staff. Also you can get huge pitchers of beer for next to nothing. It's a cool way to start a Sunday or Sat. night. I have a couple of friends that smoke and they usually get baked by 8 over there. LOL

ack that was my playground in high school and right after... old town Pasadena :) Watch out for the Pasadena pigs.

Of all those bars I would reccomend the old 35'er or the dirty diver as we called it. Probably the sleaziest and coolest on the strip, since Q's and Mooses is mostly filled with college kids. Not my thing anyhow.

If you're looking for Hollywood bars Dublin's on Sunset not too bad. Again too many college kids for my taste. But there is no cover and decent valet, or you can park at the McDonalds a block away and walk.

If you want a cool older Hollywood type bar, go to Boardners... they have a really cool outside patio too. Probably my favorite place to take friends when they come into town.

And there's always the Viper Room or the Rainbow. You will most definitely see a lame rock celebrity if you go there. I always do at least.
