Traffic trading question
 

Am I correct in believing that in order for a traffic trading script to be effective, one must get more productive clicks than uniques coming in? That is, I need to send out more traffic than comes in. More hits sent out means the trade sends back more and the traffic grows.
If this is correct, does anyone have an idea at what traffic level this begins to happen? Is there a 'critical mass' for traffic that, once exceeded, things begin to grow?

I may be way off in left field with this question. :S If I am, don't hesitate to tell me.
