Celeb Content - Can I rob?

I have no intention on doing this as I do not have a full time lawyer which I presume you need to run a celeb site.

I just want to know though can I just join a few celebs site download the lot and use that as content for a site? I am pretty sure no-one has ever purchased footage from main stream agencies for their sites. I maybe wrong but this could be done?

I live in Australia, so I'm no expert on UK or US law. But my understanding is that unlicensed celebrity content is illegal under US law. That is unless it's used to illustrate a story, review or commentary in which case it's protected under US free speech laws. Hence the fact that MrSkin.com (which offers movie reviews and actor biographies) is apparently 100% legal.

As for stealing content from sites that stole the content in the first place, you're probably no more breaking the law than they are, ie. the site probably can't sue you, but the celeb or the copyright holder probably could :2 cents:

I've no idea if any of this applies in the UK.

Smells like a can of worms to me :Oh crap

If you're going to be sued in a US court, probably yes.

Ok cool....just one more thing can I blatantly rob the whole of Mr Skin?

Why 05-08-2003 11:14 AM

from my understanding you sure as hell can.

get a host and a mailing address in amsterdam :) cheaper then an attorney.

Mutt 05-08-2003 11:21 AM

all celeb webmasters do steal from each other, this is how that biz evolved.

but i'm wondering if say you stole Mr. Skin's scans and videos if he could do anything about it legally. I don't think so, all he's done I assume is slap a URL watermark on videos he has no ownership of.

Apparently a large amount of Mr Skin's content is supplied directly by the movie studios (they see it as good publicity for their films). But hey, I guess it doesn't make much difference who you steal it from. It's hot content either way :feels-hot

OK, no problem :) That'll be $1,000 for the first day's retainer... Oh yes and I almost forgot... there's also an $8,000 Administration Fee. I did warn you about the administration fee, didn't I?
