News Nginx - do you use it?

Russian police have raided today the Moscow offices of NGINX, Inc., a subsidiary of F5 Networks and the company behind the internet's most popular web server technology.

Equipment was seized and employees were detained for questioning.

Moscow police executed the raid after last week the Rambler Group filed a copyright violation against NGINX Inc., claiming full ownership of the NGINX web server code. The Rambler Group is the parent company of rambler.ru, one of Russia's biggest search engines and internet portals.

According to copies of the search warrant posted on Twitter today, Rambler claims that Igor Sysoev developed NGINX while he was working as a system administrator for the company, hence they are the rightful owner of the project.

Sysoev created NGINX in the early 2000s and open-sourced the NGINX code in 2004.

In 2009, he founded NGINX, Inc., a US company, to provide adjacent tools and support services for NGINX deployments. The company is based in San Francisco, but has offices all over the world, including Moscow. The NGINX server's source code is still free and managed through an open-source model, although a large chunk of the project's primary contributors are NGINX, Inc. employees, who have a firm grip on the project's stewardship.

Sysoev never denied creating NGINX while working at Rambler. In a 2012 interview, Sysoev claimed he developed NGINX in his free time and that Rambler wasn't even aware of it for years. He said the server was first deployed on the Rate.ee and zvuki.ru websites and Rambler started using it only after a colleague inquired about it.

In February 2019, NGINX finally dethroned Apache HTTPD and became the most widely deployed server on the internet. According to the Netcraft December 2019 Web Server Survey, NGINX has market share of 38%.

A month later, in March 2019, cyber-security and networking equipment vendor F5 Networks acquired NGINX Inc. for $670 million.

That's a very casual situation. The guy has made about a billion dollars and Putin's mafia wants it. This is how it works in Russia.

Here is yet another case. Look at this guy. He is a safari park owner. Look how the animals are friendly to him, because they feel safe near that man:

After the annexation of Crimea the Putin's gang wants to steal his land. What did they do? They have accused him for feeding of 1.5 kg of pike meat to lions. They say there were no papers that prove the meet was certified for animals. Do you believe it? His park is closed now and the guy has been fined for about $280000 USD. Why? Because Putin and his gang want the land.

If you'll try to sue the government in Russia, you will always lose it. According to the statistics there are about 0.01% of acquittals. It's about 10x times less than it was in 1937 during the great Stalin's commie terror.

Just an example. If you throw an empty plastic cup at a cop in Russia, you'll get 4 years of prison time. This is not a joke. Putin has commented this sentence personally. He said literally: "today it's a plastic cup, tomorrow it's a glass bottle and after tomorrow it's a bullet". This is how a bald fag sees the things. I won't be surprised if tomorrow he will push the red button and kill the whole life on planet Earth. Yes, he can launch all the nuclear missiles with a single finger tap. Note my words.

You can't really defend yourself against a cop in the US either though...

The USA is not a god example, actually. Both Russia and the USA are true fascist police states. In Russia police sue people, in the USA they just shoot them dead for no reason.

Nginx is open source so it cannot be really affected by goverment intervention. Plus US company own it now anyway.

Im glad that you finally understood it...
Now, what you gonna do about it?
Erase Russian mentality and put something else there?
              You have some plan already?

"On the infinite a steppes of Russian territory lay Eastern Europe. A sharp contrast is noticed when comparing central Europe with this enormous space. On both sides of the border is the same earth but not the same man.

It is the man who makes his mark on the landscape, while on the German side is planned orderly fields yielding abundant harvests; the other side is only impenetrable forests, vast and unkempt, miles of uninhabited steppes where even the rivers wind endlessly through the nothingness.

This poorly kept land which hides fertile soil could be a paradise for man, a potential "California of Europe" alive with fields and fruit, but instead it lies neglected and wasted, lost to the abyss of cultural nihilism.

This land cries out against the subhuman and his wasteful ways! This fertile black earth watered by burning tears, is only barely separated from the rest of Europe. However its Eastern European masters have not risen above their primitive ways.

The land sees only chaos and wastes because it is not cared for by true man, the bearer of high culture and genius, who would manage its development, and bring civilization to its soil instead of only cruel and endless war, and destruction."

It has nothing to do with our mentality. The country is ruled by mafia. Do you know what Putin is not a president according to the Russian Constitution? He is an impostor.

Oh gee this thread took a whole lot of turns.

Back to the topic though, looks like Rambler will sue for copyright. I find the matter ridiculous and they'll never win, though what actually happens in Russia and to Russian offices of the company I can't predict. This wasn't a work project for Rambler and Sysoev says he was working on it in his time off. A company doesn't own your free time, only the 8 hours they buy from you... not sure how they can prove otherwise.

Just an addition to my previous post about Russian police which sues people. After the summer protest actions in Moscow, the police have sued off millions of rubles from Navalny because... they were working overtime. Can you imagine that police which lives for a taxpayers money sue those taxpayers because they were working more than usually? The same thing did Moscow metro. They said they were overworking (in fact they just earned much more money than usually), so Navalny has to pay them millions too. This is not a joke. This is a Putin's reality.

I hope it was Soviet... You know that only the commie party is the one which joined liberals in their protests against Putin? Communists and liberals are joined together. Sounds very ironically maybe, but that's a truth.

That's really not true. Yes on the very rare occasion a cop will shoot someone either by accident or maybe on purpose, but most of the time they shoot someone because they're felons that just committed their 10th violent felony and they're reaching for a gun. The media loves to hype it up because most of the time it's blacks committing lots of violent crime.
