What's the best laptop to get?
I'm looking for a new laptop & I want the best one money can buy. ...what should i get?
Price doesnt matter. What's better Intel M? Intel P4 M? Should it have Centrino, etc? |
check out the sony grx690, saw one on ebay today brand new for under 1500. great little laptops. centrinos dont have the processing power yet to compete with your average desktop yet.

Get one with a 1600x1200 uxga screen and a 2.8ghz processor with atleast 512mb pc2700 ddr.
If you are serious about buying one hit me up on icq i'll save you a little money on one. |
get centrio 1.6 ghz it will compete with desktop pcs Clockspeed doesnt mean shit you need to look at overall performance, centrio also gives you better batt life and a thinner notebook

Order it from Sony tho, don't buy it at Best Buy or Frys -- you really want the Win2k version, not the XP -- and Sony's integrated wireless reception is the BEST. The antenna wraps around your screen and you can get wireless where cards can't even figure out there is wireless. |

Sony vaio sucks. I have a desk top and a lap top they are both useless. Everything else we have is dell and works great. |

I got the 17" a couple of weeks ago, now I can retouch/edit video/ssh into the server by the pool. It comes with 54 mbps wireless built in - big difference to PCMI cards as it has two antennas running up either side of the large screen.
Shitloads of screen estate - works great with final cut pro, but the video card in it supports spanning anyway, as well as having s-video and DVI out. OSX is now my main operating system, although to be fair I've mostly used Macs in my career, I've also used Win2k and XP, as well having very limited experience with our Redhat servers - mostly I leave that to tech. However a couple of times I've had to ssh in, sftp updates and the like, and having the terminal native to the system means I can use the shell to do local shit too. It also looks slick too, only an inch thick, so not as un-portable as you might think because of the screen.(Another under-published feature is the ability to swap batteries without having to shut down, just sleep it and swap it - great if you're editing on the move - I think this is common to all powerbooks though). |
get an hp laptop... they fix that shit with no questions asked... send a fedex man to pick it up the next day.. fix it and have it back in less then 3 days :thumbsup

If price is no object but performance is......
