Using laptop with cell phone?
 

I have an Audiovox CDM9000 digital phone and a Thinkpad with built in modem. I'm looking for a way to use the laptop while in a non phone serviced area.

I asked my local dealer and he said that I could get a serial hookup that connects to the phone, but if I did the local company would bill me for using the "data network" or something for horrible prices, and that only if the phone was analogue coudl I get away with dialing in under my Unlimited Evenings and Weekends plan. I said "can't I just manually set the phone to force analogue, and then do it, and he said no.

To me that seems wrong, isn't there a way I could just rig up a "Headset" unit to plug into the phone and dial manually on the phone and make the modem connect?

Anyone know anything about this?

If I understand this right, you need to use the PHONE as the MODEM. Ie, you don't use the internal modem.

Of course that's with an internet ready phone.
