Shell— Food Mart?

I just read about some guy who is angry about his liver. His freshly-cooked liver from Shell in Arkansas, mind you. I’ve seen food stores at gas stations but have never been in one. I’m not believing that people go to a gas station food store for freshly-made liver.

Seriously, is this a joke? Soda, beer, bread, milk, snacks for the road and maybe coffee but cooked liver made fresh?? I’m thinking that maybe it’s a regional thing. You can buy freshly-caught lobster and quahogs at some gas stations in New Bedford Mass and the people buy it. Small boats, good catch, no business and needing a few bucks is understandable, but I won’t eat shellfish unless I know which fishing bank they’re from. Too many illnesses from infected seafood and I don’t want to be a victim.

Liver. Made at a gas station. No filet mignon from locally-killed cows?!

Calves liver and bacon with onion gravy - You haven't lived!..

I heard you don't do offal in the USA - Crazy when you remember that your national dish is a 'Big Mag'.....

I don't know about him being angry at his liver but I know my liver hates me for my drinking.

But really who buys gas food? I've heard of some gas stations having sushi and I've heard some complaints about getting sick from it. Me I'm smart enough not to think any gas food is fresh or cooked correctly by gas employees.

Sure I'll go to some that have subways or other separate restaurants in them but those have employees that are trained to make food.

Only good use of gas restaurants is how they usually work 24/7 so if everything else is closed you go there.

ya, and I have bought like burritos that you microwave in the gas station and that is my go-to if traveling and nothing else is open but that is in a package that has an expiring date.

I always think of old movies that have scenes talking about things threads are about.

diner food was different cause they had people that cooked the food and waited on you. I liked diner food as a kid but this thread is more about that deli that is right next to the register in the gas station and you have no idea if that food is an hour old or 18 hours old :1orglaugh

We had two local diners around here, Orchid Diner and Green Diner. I ate at Orchid once in junior high school and never again. Green was good but the last time we ate there, the waitress was upset that we didn’t speak Portuguese. She asked us what language we spoke and I said English. Mom jokingly said Yiddish (though it’s true) and the waitress asked what that was. Another waitress said “they’re Jew dogs” and the original moron yelled at us to leave as”she ain’t bringin’ no food ta Jews.” We ate there maybe once a month or less .

I’m trying to think of gas station diners around here but can’t think of any right now. The Mattapoisett Diner was bigger than most but gas was at the other end of the lot and a separate building . My mom isn’t from the area but I’ll ask her on Friday when she visits me.

We left and went to Davy.’s Locker and never went back again.

Didn’t hear it was for sale but no parking. the Dogg House across the street, a Chinese place across the street and a Dunkin in a gas station next door. Used to be a meeting place over coffee but the lack of parking, less traffic and more issues had people moving on.

Shawmut Diner is by the airport but had a dirty reputation.

No liver,, though. I did ask about liver in gas stations when an older nurse came by and she said they are down south!

I guess for lazy people and cheap people, diners provided a service. Cooks couldn’t afford their own restaurant or cooks had a ‘past’ and no one would hire them. They had talent for heating frozen food and making American Chop Suey and burgers. Today people would rather have good food with a price since credit cards are their form of cash.

Why would anyone ever eat food out of a Shell Food Mart? I mean, a candy bar or pre-packaged muffin sure but.... Not anything they cook at a gas station.

Gross.

There must be a need for liver at a gas station.

To non Americans like me Highway Diners have an almost romantic quality - So much of the TV we watch from America features diners in some way - I guess it's the same way Americans see British Pubs...

Alice! Yesterday I drove by a diner that is half the size of regular diners. Literally two cars in front were longer than the diner ! If I had a working phone I’d have taken a picture.

This was actually a pretty good movie!

I regret not seeing it in the theatre. Sure it's loaded with cheese and it wreaks of Michael Bay 'Splosions, but wow does this movie look and sound fucking fantastic. If you have a high end home theatre, watch this flick.

And another good reason to watch...
