only 30-40 years ago a flight from europe to the united states was a 2 month wages for a normal worker. this is why fewer people could afford to fly and fewer airlines have been on the market. the falling price made it possible that every worker could afford such a flight (what is called PROSPERITY) and not only the competition is higher but there are around 50 times more jobs created around airtravel.

when my family got the first telephone in 1959 we have been the only one in the street and i had to go 20 times per day to our neighbors because someone called fro them.
the costs for the telephone compared to the household income in that time have been around 100 times higher. and if that would not go down i would probably still call my neighbors. in that time there have been all over germany around 10.000 jobs around telephone biz. today there are around 3 million.

If the price of BW rose tomorrow to make Tubes unprofitable those figures would suddenly become 1-300. If porn came off the Internet and people had to buy porn to jerk off. I remember how exciting it was to get a gallery listed! I was a gallery designing machine back in those days :)
