I had an employee that went to war from the army reserves. Twenty years old and he joined as his father served in Vietnam. Gay and wanting to be manly and shoot the enemy.

Wrote sporadically but was doing well and learning about medical training. Came back home and the three years changed him. Stronger, confident, trained army medical support and trained shooter. Does not discuss the time there other than meeting his now husband and graduating from medical school in California.

He’s also a weapons trainer for a local police department for new recruits.

He became a man of integrity and trust and his sexual identity has nothing to do with his being in the army. He jokingly and seriously said that “in the military you don’t keep your eye on your teammates’ ass unless you’re willing to die to protect it.”
