Gout - Any of you had it this year?

When was your last flare-up?

Bladewire 07-26-2019 02:23 PM

What the fuck is wrong with you, other than the obvious mental illness.

Why have you made over 10 shit threads today?

Change your diet, probably need to reduce the amount of meat and alcohol you're consuming.
Also, studies have shown that fluoride alleviates the effect of uric acid and thus greatly minimizes your chance of getting gout.

Surprisingly, I am a veggie who doesn’t drink, the food which appears to be triggering it for me is Quorn, so I will be cutting it out from now on.

Thanks for the info on fluoride, though it is not something I would consume personally. It had been 14 months since the last flare-up, so hopefully if I cut out the Quorn and ensure I don’t run out of vitamin C, I can avoid this for another couple of decades.

I was just messing about the fluoride part, lol. Not too familiar with quorn, but since it appears as a protein substitute, it could be the cause.

I get it when I eat too much shellfish mostly. Know the signs now early enough to back it down fast enough before its a full on attack. The first time I got it, swore I broke my foot. Painful shit.

Supposed to take the daily med to reduce uric acid, but always forget.

HairyChick 07-26-2019 05:59 PM

Had it for about two years during my early-twenties. I think I took Allopurinol for it. Right foot big toe joint. I didn’t eat much red meat and no alcohol and I wasn’t put on a special diet. The meds seemingly helped because stopped after two years and never had pain again.

SBJ 07-26-2019 07:50 PM

I take 2 cherry pills a day and as long as I don't forget to take them more than 2 days I never have a gout outbreak. I had to give up beer but vodka and other hard alcohol are ok as long as I take the pills. Something about the hops of beer is much worse for gout. I've had it for a decade and it acts up a few times a year but I haven't had a full-on attack where I couldn't walk since 2012 and that is when I found the cherry pills.

thank you! When I found out I had it in 2011 I was 6'4" and weighed 230 lbs which is over my BMI, but I was at 199 (ideal BMI weight) in 2009 while in hospital for a month and I could see all my ribs and my stomach was indented bellow my ribs.. so FUCK BMI

GOUT is caused by in my case drinking way too much beer over the years and at some points of my good life, I would grill 2 t-bones a week. GOUT has nothing to do with being fat

I'm starting to wonder if there is a coincidence that the most crazed trolls on GFY are all British. There is probably a link between bad teeth and mental illness..

imabro 07-27-2019 01:55 PM

I am sure healthy, fit people get gout all the time.

While that may be the case, since gout is often brought on by excessive meat, shellfish and beer consumption, generally it seems to impact those who are obese.

Personally, I have never known of anyone that had gout that wasn't significantly overweight; even cartoons/movies depict sufferers of being overweight.

brassmonkey 07-27-2019 05:10 PM

"Gout" sounds fancy, and I'm on a shoestring budget to have it.

exactly, I get it from time to time and its just because of beer. I am 5'9 and weight 160lbs. Thank god the past few times have been very mild. I had it once like 5 years ago and I wanted to die it was that painful.
