Scherie Murray, a Jamaican immigrant, is planning on challenging Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., for her House seat in 2020.
“There is a crisis in Queens, and it’s called AOC,” Murray, who is a Republican and New York businesswoman, told Fox News ahead of her Wednesday announcement. “And instead of focusing on us, she’s focusing on being famous. Mainly rolling back progress and authoring the job-killing Green New Deal and killing the Amazon New York deal.”
Murray, 38, was born in Jamaica and immigrated to America when she was 9. Her video announcement titled "Bridges" focuses on criticism of Ocasio-Cortez, calling her the district's "crisis."
“Your representative in Washington chooses self-promotion over service, conflict over constituents, resistance over assistance. Queens and the Bronx needs someone who will create jobs instead of turning them away," Murray said in the video.
Murray also slammed Ocasio-Cortez in the video for seeking the "limelight" and a pay raise while simultaneously costing New York thousands of jobs through the failed Amazon deal.
