A Las Vegas Trump supporter has been fired for remaining one floor below the gunman who fired into a crowd of concertgoers from a high-rise hotel room and killed 58 people in 2017, the police union president said Wednesday.

Officer Cordell Hendrex was terminated by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in March for his inaction at the Mandalay Bay hotel during the deadliest mass shooting in modern American history, said Steve Grammas, president of the Las Vegas Police Protective Association.

Body camera footage released by the department shows Mr. Hendrex, accompanied by another officer and armed security guards, walking and standing in the hallway of the 31st floor as the gunman fired on civilians and officers at a concert venue below.

On the recording, the officers and guards can be heard reporting that the gunman is one level above them, but for several minutes they stay on the floor below.

Mr. Hendrex later wrote in a report on the shooting that he had frozen, The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported last year.

“I know I hesitated and I remember being terrified with fear and I think that I froze right there in the middle of the hall for how long I can’t say,” Mr. Hendrex wrote.

Mr. Grammas said the union was seeking to contest the officer’s termination through arbitration, and that he expected a final decision in August or September. Officials with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department were not immediately available for comment.

These cops make more money that soldiers fighting in wars. Do soldiers get to say "I want to go home tonight, sorry I can't fight the terrorists today"? No they have to man up and do their fucking job..

Unrealistic expectations...soldiers fight in large groups and have heavy heavy support...HEAVY support...and they aint carrying no gay pistol but have a platoon of machine guns...

Think about this for a moment.. if those guys had even gone up to his floor and simply made some noise letting the shooter know they were there... the shooter couldn't have then focused solely on shooting out his window, he'd have to stop and lose his focus on shooting but instead dealing with potential cops busting in..

Just a simple act like that likely would have saved people because the shooter would be distracted

You can literally see on the video in 30 seconds exactly what happened it doesn't take two years to figure that out? With pay! What the hell is wrong with these police departments?

We need to accept the truth here.

US Marines, when they are on the firing line for the first time and have to pull the trigger with the intention of taking someone's life.... Nearly one third of them cannot do it.

We watch too much TV and movies. We think it's easy to be a hero and run towards the shooting; We think someone can run into a room with a bad guy with a gun and instantly drop him with one shot and.... This is not the way life works.

We get the same shiite goin' on here with our police force. Everytime a cop gets charged for something they put him on "administrative leave" and he gets paid to sit at home all day until his case is heard in court.

It's part of the protective terms of their union contract.
